Integral-t Innovative 2D digital pattern-making with 3D visualisation and consulting services They must know the dimensions, shape, and gradient of the land.

I liken our approach to pattern making to that of an architect before they consider the design of a building. Once they have the details, the drafts person will create the concept and structure using CAD software specifically designed for the task. In the same way, a pattern maker should know the body dimensions and shape of the person or target market the clothing is being made for. Apparel indu

stry best practise uses a confirmed body shape and a construction method with an effective CAD system to quickly create and output a well-fitting patterns for production. I query the notion that student pattern makers should spend several years working at manual pattern making, using cardboard and shears, before stepping up to CAD to get the benefits and efficiencies the present technology can deliver. We don’t say architects, builders, town planners, mechanical or aeronautical engineers, or industrial designers should work on manual drafts for years before moving to CAD. They all use a CAD system when they start to learn their craft. Are we lagging behind the rest of the world? Certainly we are way behind Europe, where students get a short overview of pattern making principles, then go straight to CAD for all practical assignments, just like an architect! This allows them to have double the hours of pattern instruction, because they have CAD to deliver the accuracy that it take years to build up when working manually. Pattern makers still sit at the top of a list of technical skills in short supply in the TCF industry in Australia. The LMT07 Training Package is under review and technical skills are highlighted as one of the 2 main streams. We cannot lose our technical skills to overseas agencies. I suggest we embrace the way they do things in countries, like Germany, that continue to export their goods all over the world!

In GRAFIS, constructions are based on a parametric logic instead of fixed XY coordinates. This makes it easy to grade curves or complex shapes such as spread parts. Changes to the pattern automatically update dependent parts, ensuring consistent fit and grading. Benefit from efficiency, precision and reproducible styles.
Let Integral-T help you with your next project.
