We absolutely adored our chat with the amazing ladies at Women in Trucking Australia Ltd last month. When we saw a post discussing the lack of women's fit-for-purpose PPE in the market, we knew we could have an interesting chat. We didn't think we'd be chatting an hour later about all things from equity to wellbeing.

Congrats on the amazing advocacy you do for women in trucking and we look forward to seeing where our aligned thinking may take us.

And congrats to Lindsee on the baby!! Our mat gear looks fab with lots of room for the bump to grow!

From R2A's and Apto PPE's viewpoint, we're asking the question: Why shouldn't females have proper fitting, safe workwear onsite? Why wouldn't they?

If the objective from a WHS legislation/OHS Act perspective is to achieve the highest level of protection, is this reasonably practicable? Then organisations' question is: Why not? But when you actually go to industry and talk to people, the reason is: Why would we? Which is the wrong way around and always has been.

Apto PPE's challenge to organisations out there is make your women safe onsite. There are options out there. They are smaller organisations, they're not the big guys, but there's some really good fitting female PPE out there. So make your girls safe onsite.

On Friday, Gaye attended NAWIC VIC's IWD Event "Crack the Code: Innovation for a Gender Equal Future".

There were great discussions on how the construction industry needs women to be 'breakers and shakers'. But one of the sobering, 'simple stats' shared was that women only represent 13% of the construction workforce and only 2% in trades - a stat that really hasn't shifted for two decades.

That there are still women having to reach out for a female toilet and women's PPE on site. Fundamental access and equity not being delivered for all workers.

That change is needed around 6 day working weeks not being sustainable for any parent or carer, and that this means change is required in the expectations around project delivery.

It's exhausting when a minority has to keep fighting for what seems to be little change. But it's necessary and important. We do it for the next generation, in hope that we save them from our experiences.

Thanks for an inspiring event NAWIC and for keeping the fire in our bellies lit for continuing to fight for change - for equity.
