This morning when I was getting dressed I thought, hmm, this probably isn’t professional enough for the meetings I have today.

I quickly went into a spiral of, I’m not good enough, why am I even invited etc but I realized that it’s better for me to wear what I feel confident and comfortable in, that’s authentic to me as a person and what I can bring to the table rather than the thought of who I should be.

It’s kinda nice to just be me.

Super happy with my latest make - a 1940’s work wear jacket!

I started this one in lockdown in 2020… and subsequently pushed it aside after losing my jacket sewing mojo 🤣I finally picked it back up as I hate having things unfinished, plus the fabric was expensive and it felt so wasteful.

What do you think? 💗

👋🏻 There’s a few new faces here so thought I’d introduce myself!

I’m Nadia, 35 and originally from the UK. I moved to Melbourne 14 years ago, after graduating from my Bachelor of Biomedical Science.

I have a mini dachshund, Rollo, who is the absolute bestest boy and my little ray of sunshine.

I have never met a craft I haven’t liked (actually I take that back, crotchet) but my favorites are sewing and painting. I’ve been sewing (consistently) for about 6 years. I love the creativity and the fact I can make clothes to fit my 6 ft curvy frame.

I love pink, sweet treats and a two piece outfit 😂💗

Thank you for all the love on my Frocktails dress!

I wanted to share some details about its construction and a bit of honesty in terms of cost to construct a garment like this.

📍Patterns used were: 1936 Elegant low back evening dress with statement sleeves from Bright Young Things for the skirt and 1930’s Ladies Wedding/ evening gown from Vintage Pattern Girl (both on Etsy) for the sleeves and bodice.

📍Modifications: The bodice I added darts, length in both the arm scythe and bodice. I really wanted a backless dress so I hacked the pattern to a deep V. I also added length to the sleeve and skirt to account for being 6ft tall!

📍Finishing: The bodice is fully lined in silk and so is the lower cuff. These were hand sewn to the outer silk, including hand understitching and a hand sewn hem. I used an invisible zipper on the side for the closure and two snaps inside the cuff to allow the sleeve to balloon. All inside seams were completed as a French seam.

📍Cost: 100% Mulberry silk from .textiles at $50 p/m (4m required)
Lining silk: $20 p/m (40% off) and 1.5m used.
Notions: Zip, thread, popper ~$20
Belt: Buckle and then made $120

📍Time: It took me 3 muslins to get the fit as both patterns were not my size so including this it was approximately 30 hours of cutting, sewing and hand sewing.

So it absolutely was a costly dress to make because of the fabric choice I had in mind and the time taken to construct it. It certainly was a challenge as I’ve never sewn with silk and it isn’t perfect but I’m so thrilled with it!

Another look at the Scrunch headband in black and white gingham!

I’ve had so much lovely feedback on this piece due to it being so versatile, this is especially good for those dipping their toes in the water of hair accessories as it can be paired back and then as your confidence increases so can the size of your Scrunch!

I always enjoy creating the complimentary corsages that come with the Viola Headband. It’s where the original inspiration came from when I started Nadia Faye Designs - seeing vintage adverts of women in glamorous turbans and floral pieces.

This one is made up of tiny white velvet flowers and little pink buds, bound in a black velvet ribbon. The small brooch clasp allows you to pin your corsage onto the headband or your outfit.

I love seeing how people style both of these pieces individually and together!

The Viola headband in black is the perfect everyday accessory!

I wanted to make vintage inspired headbands and turbans that didn’t hurt when worn all day - so all fabrics have been carefully chosen for quality and comfort.

The headband on the Viola is 10” wide so can be placed in half when wearing your hair down or kept wide when hair is worn up! These are actually made in two portions and then hand sewn together - every piece handmade with love.

Shown here with a classic blouse and skirt for a chic work look.

✨Available Friday 20th May at 7pm✨
