About a year and a half ago, after reading the idea in a book (which one I’ve completely forgotten — many apologies to the author!) I stuck a sticky note on my wall where I would see it every morning, “it’s going to be a great day”.

I am NOT a morning person, and am generally in a foul mood until at least 8am and a coffee, but I found this simple thing to be a TOTAL game changer.

It’s not some toxic positivity thing — but it’s almost impossible to tell yourself that it’s going to be a great day, without gaining at least a *little* optimism. I didn’t quite believe it at first, when I started waking up and saying it to myself each morning. But I *tried* to believe it, and I’ve found more and more great things in my day, each day since.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a day where every single little thing has been perfect, but that doesn’t need to happen to call it a perfect day. I don’t think I’ve had a day in which every single tiny little thing has completely stunk either.

This tee is a reminder to control what you can, ride the wave of what you can’t, to find joy and beauty where it is available, and to make some where it’s not.

Of COURSE some things in each day will be on the spectrum from imperfect at best, and devastating at worst. But in my mind, if you’ve stood by your values, tried your best, loved others, and been gracious with yourself, you can tick the box on a great day. And the best thing is, you can always have a great day tomorrow.

This is .cyril and he is definitely a little bit of greatness in each of my days.

When they put on their "voter" tee in the morning, try these conversation starters:

- What do you think this tee means?
- What do you think voting is for? Do you know anything about how it works?
- Who is allowed to vote? When did different people become allowed to vote?
- Do you think adults should listen to what kids have to say? What would you say to an adult who thinks kids' opinions don't matter?
- Can you think of some things that really matter to you? Are any of them bigger than you can manage on your own?
- What are some things that make you hopeful?
- What are some things that make you feel excited about the future?
- What things in your country are you grateful for?
- What things worry you or feel unfair, for you or others?
- How can you inspire people to take action to make the world a better place?
- Who are some people you work well with, get excited with, and make things happen with?
- If you could get the whole world talking about, and acting on, one thing that you think matters, what would it be? What would you tell them?
- What do you feel most hopeful about today?

You could also spend some time looking up pictures, movies, or books, about people who haven't always been able to vote, countries that don't give their people a chance to vote, and the ways that people have made their voices heard.

You could even write a letter to your local politician, or even the Prime Minister, and remind them that the decisions being made today impact the world our kids will inherit.
