For some of you who don’t know, I volunteer at a historic home in Black Rock. The house is 168yrs old and open to the public the first Sunday of each month for costumed guided tours 1-4pm.

The house is owned by the Bayside city council but the ‘Friends’ group, which I’m part of care for the house and open it for the community each month and for private functions during the week.
We decided to create a bit of fun at Halloween for the locals, who doesn’t want to visit a real haunted house at Halloween!

I’m happy to say seven years on and many thousands of visitor’s later we’re still scaring the daylights out of people either with our Scary Mary in the cellar, Mr Baker the undertaker in the cemetery or if you dare, take a walk down Death Alley that leads you into the Witches in the Stables.

There’s a little something for everyone and this year we’ll have a game of Skull Skittles on the front verandah.

I’m sharing this here as some of you have asked why I have all these Halloween costumes in the studio, now you know why.

Feel free to bring the kids and grandkids for a bit of Halloween fun.

We’ll also be hosting our Christmas Carols on Wednesday 4th Dec 6-8.30pm.

30-36 Ebden Ave Black Rock. 🧙🎩

So you may have noticed I’ve been a little quite the past six months, that’s because my dear old Dad has been very unwell. He went into the Alfred on 5 Jan and finally came home on 20 May. In between those dates he had a night here and there at home but then ended up in hospital. He’s doing much better now but it’s been a huge adjustment for all the family including my once very fit and active 86yr old Dad.

In that time sewing was put aside and only the odd hem was done (as I’m his main carer) but now I think it’s time to pick up some hours behind the machine. We still have fortnightly visits to the hospital vascular podiatrist and cardio specialists but I can now work around those appointments. Having said that I’ve had to reduce my hours to Monday-Thursday 10.30-6.30pm.

You have all been very patient with me but the bags of clothing some of you have been storing in your cars can come out now. A few delights arrived last Thursday that may keep me busy for a while, but I’m up for the challenge!!

And a neighbour who has been wanting a sewing lesson for many months finally achieved what she wanted last week which turned out amazing. Thank you for the delicious cake today.

My wonderful family have been my rock in this journey and I find myself very blessed to have them and my amazing friends in my life.

So for those of you who have alterations, please reach out, I’m back.

From formal dresses to wedding dresses, repairing school uniforms to tailoring clothes that don’t fit to fit beautifully.
Now today it seems is Halloween alteration day on w
Witches dress, Cousin Itt costume needs a mend and to unfortunately take a beautiful 1950 lace dress and make it fit my client, which means adding extra material on the sides of the dress so she’s a co**se bride for Halloween. Gotta say I 🖤

If there was more hours in a day……

Due to an increase in business I am fully booked till Monday 11 Dec then taking a few weeks off to arrange a very special 21st for my twins (there’s also a dress or two to make for the event).

I’ll be returning to work on Monday 8th January for all uniform alterations.

Thank you for all your support throughout the year and for entrusting me with your alterations.

We have created some amazing outfits this year apart from the day to day alterations. We’ve turned dresses into skirts, trench coats into blazers, added sleeves into summer dresses, removed sleeves and also the occasional kimono repair. Oh and the odd teddy bear surgery!!
I look forward to see you all in 2024!!

I love my job and I love up cycling. The world would be a much cleaner healthier place if we all just looked in our wardrobe and thought ‘how can I wear that to fit me’ instead of throwing the item in a bag destined for the bin or taking it to the op shop. These days if there is a mark on clothes at the op shop they either cut them up for rags or yep they go into a bag headed for landfill.

I’ve been following this company for a few years now called Evrnu in Seattle, America and they finally have a process for using old textiles. Adidas has come onboard and making hoodies from the Nucycl thread which I think is awesome and a great step in the right direction to saving the planet from all the disposable clothing in the world.

Closer to home is Textile Recyclers Australia doing great work in Melbourne and now in Sydney educating the fashion houses and retailers. They also accept clothes, fabric or linen and sort, pack and send to third world countries. Anything left they then start the process of recycling.

If you have any clothes that you’d like repurposed or upcycled let’s have a chat.

To say I love my job is an understatement.
I just received this lovely gift from 2 clients that are finally getting married this Saturday after having to cancel many times in the past few years.
I always get warm and fuzzy when an alteration to a garment is just perfect and the clients are blissfully happy. Photos of the wedding to come next week.

We’ll it’s been a crazy year of sewing with special events, celebrations, weddings, formals, 1st day at school, general alterations, those ill fitted online shop purchases and the odd special request that keeps it interesting and I have loved every day that I walk into the studio and see what’s to be done.
With that said I’m happy people are pre planning but I now find I am out of time/hours to take on any more work this year.
There’s still more to come but I’m now fully booked till Monday 16th January.
If there’s school uniforms out there that need letting down/ talking up book in now!!
Thank you again for all your continued support throughout the year and repeat business. See you in 2023 xx

Some of you will know that I volunteer at a historic home in Black Rock and I’ve also made curtains for the newly remodeled library.

Recently Mordialloc Alterations had the pleasure putting the finishing touches into the library and now we’re happy to open it to the public to visit, see the interesting books donated by the Peter MacCallum family (Sir Peter MacCallum owned the house in the 1930’s) and enjoy delicious Devonshire tea in Tamar’s Tearoom. House is open today 1-4pm.
You might even get served by yours truly if you’re lucky 😉.

The sun will be shining on our stable area tomorrow including a beautiful new deck adjacent to Tamar’s Tearoom.

Enjoy Devonshire tea on the new deck, front verandah or inside, the choose is yours.

Bookings for Devonshire Tea 1.30-3.30pm are welcomed by emailing: [email protected]

Costumed guided house tours commence 1-4, no bookings required.

I love when a customer comes in and asks ‘can this be done!’
This Zimmerman dress had long sleeves and now it’s been transformed into a stylish cap sleeve dress.
Don’t think you need to throw out anything ask the question first and save clothing from landfill.
You’ve probably got some beautiful clothes with amazing fabric in your wardrobe that doesn’t fit correctly we can repurpose and reuse for years to come.

What’s that old saying: Do what you love and never work a day!
We’ll I love walking into my studio, changing the way my clients look and feel in their clothes.
I love alterering clothes, remodelling to fit or turning a garment into something completely different.
Some say it’s easier to send to landfill and buy off the shelf but the fabrics of the past will always be better quality than some of the disposable quality of today.
The below shirt was purchased for my client for work but it’s a Mens ‘S’ casual fit and it was like a sack on her in the body, shoulders and length. So I had no choice but to dissect every seam and rebuild it to fit her and make her feel like it’s hers.
That smile when she just tried it on makes my day every time, a perfect fit.
PS- I forgot to say thank you to my clients for entrusting me with making the changes to their garments.
