A leafless tree covered in petalless flowers…

Leaves and petals are much too delicate!

Just phyllodes and pollen balls that shine brighter than the sun.

These flowers make me so happy and they mark the beginning of favourite time of year. I have been adding as many wattle branches into my bouquets as I can. I don’t usually refer to my florals as seasonal {because I dry everything with the hope that I can still use some when their season has passed!} but wattle is only here for such a brief time, and I try to use it quickly when it is in the best condition, so it really is something special.

Blush bouquets, my little ballerina found me, some studio scenes. Xo

Happy July to you!

Love,

Elizabeth

Well look at this! Good news feels very bittersweet right now - I knew this issue was on the way and I just wish I got to show it to my mom. This is the first time I’ve ever been commissioned to take a photo for the cover of a magazine. Is this vista looking familiar to you!? I am in one of my favourite photo-taking-spots in the potting shed with the door open to the backyard, with buckets of late summer flowers. I am so happy with my zinnias this year, once again they did so well planted close together. It is always such a joy to work with the lovely editor of OG, Steve Payne, who wrote the story for this feature – about our garden renovation and my journey from growing vegies to starting a flower business. This issue is out now if you’d like to grab a copy, as always it is full of wonderful information, inspiration and stories for people who really love to grow things.

THANK YOU – I really wasn’t expecting such a warm and loving response, thank you so much for the comments and messages and emails, it really does mean so much to me.

I think it was hard for me to start posting on Instagram again because this space has also served as an important way that my mom and I stayed connected. She never missed a post, and it has been an added gift of having an online business, that she was able to see so much of my life from the other side of the globe. So, it is bittersweet to hit post knowing that she will not see my news, my garden, or what I’ve made.

The most upsetting thing about tragedy, heartache, and loss is the simple fact that the earth continues to spin. I remember feeling this when I lost my dad as a 12-year-old… it made me angry - why are the birds still chirping, why are cars driving by, why are there people laughing. When we are in pain, I guess we want the world to freeze. But it doesn’t. So right now, I go through the motions, even though that feels like I’m accepting a new reality that I don’t want to accept.

But I know one thing for certain, my mom wouldn’t have wanted me to stop working and put my life on hold to be sad. The truth is, she hid her illness from me for this reason.

I wish I could share everything that I’ve made recently with you, but I didn’t take many photos in March. It is autumn now, the season of warm colours and cool air, a backyard jungle that needs taming, and new life that needs to be sown.

It is good to be back and thank you so much again, I’m still working through responses but appreciate the love that has been shown to me so, so much.

I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend.

Love,

Elizabeth

Hello, I’m here. I’ve been silenced the past month by the passing of my beautiful mom at the end of February.

I am struggling, there is no denying it, and it is a very difficult thing to put into words. My head is swirling with thoughts and feelings all day every day and this morning I thought I better just start to share again. It might do me some good, and so thank you if you are reading this, if I haven’t totally disappeared from everyone’s feed.

As I was leaving Australia, I didn’t think I was going to have any time with her. But when I got to the hospital, she was there and I was so relieved. I was happy. I spent a couple of days with her, with hope, with so much love and joy, and that time was a gift. One of the best gifts I’ve ever been given in my whole life was that Thursday and Friday.

It was on the Saturday morning that everything changed. That day changed me. I’m still trying to figure out who walked out of that hospital room at the end of that day because it wasn’t me. Something is gone, there is loneliness and emptiness now where her unconditional love sat within me, the constant force of a mother’s love that I now know so well. That day plays over and over in my head as I try and make sense of it, it feels like I might even still be there, holding her hand. In my head I hear her voice so clearly that maybe all of this isn’t even real.

What helps is spending extra time with Robbie and the kids. I find the innocence of my kids especially comforting; they don’t know what death is. The kids share a room and I’ve been sleeping in there lately; perhaps the best medicine is lying in there at night, just listening to the soothing harmony of their perfect little breaths.

That’s all for now, but a big huge thank you for the comments on my last post and for those who have asked about me. Work continues, work is my happy place and my garden and shop have been ticking along, orders are most welcome, unfortunately it is just the sharing of it all that is lacking right now.

More soon and lots of love,

Elizabeth xo
