There’s something so satisfying about making your first lined zipper pouch. You learn how to use a zipper foot, discover how to install a zip, and figure out how to give your pouch a neat, professional-looking finish.

And then comes the fun part… 😍

Once you know how to make one, you can make dozens more!

This morning, we welcomed four people into Studio Thimbles to try sewing for the very first time. And what a lovely way to spend a Sunday! ✨

And do you know what makes it even more special? Remembering where it all began.

Like many of our students, this student started her sewing journey at Studio Thimbles with her very first cushion cover in our Level 1 Beginners Course.

One project led to another. New skills grew into confidence. And before long, she was making something she could actually wear! 🥰

Now she’s wearing the top she made herself and working on her own pair of pants. ✂️✨

This is what we love about teaching sewing. You don't have to know everything from the beginning. You just need to start, keep learning and enjoy the journey — one project, one skill and one stitch at a time.

❤️ One fleecy set. Two generations. Double the cosiness! 🧵🥰

A little holiday moment that makes me smile.

I’m wearing the top of my handmade fleece set, and my son is wearing the matching bottoms. 😂❤️

Apparently, when you sew something warm, colourful and comfortable enough, it becomes a family wardrobe! 😆

And honestly? I love it.

There’s something so satisfying about wearing something you’ve made yourself. Not just because you chose the fabric or put it all together, but because you know exactly how much love, time and creativity went into it.

And when you can share that handmade cosiness with your family? Even better! 💕

Looking at this photo, I’m thinking… is it time to make another set? Maybe this time I should make enough for everyone! 😂🪡

One of my favourite things about sewing is that it gives me the freedom to create exactly what I want — and then enjoy it in real life, long after 😊

And yes, I absolutely love the fact that I can sew. ❤️🧵

These two sisters made their own fabric baskets, and we just love seeing family and friends come together to learn something new!

There’s something special about sharing a creative experience. You learn new skills, help each other along the way, have a few laughs… and go home with something you’ve made with your own hands. ✂️✨

🧵 A little sewing magic for our new Subiaco neighbour! 🫶✨

I love watching the sewing process come together! It’s a great reminder of just how many steps go into creating something beautiful.

For this project, I didn’t manage to capture the cutting stage — and trust me, that was a challenge in itself! 😅 Cutting curtains through multiple layers of fabric takes patience and precision.

Then comes stabilising both layers to prevent the fabric from shifting while sewing, carefully stitching everything together, and finally seeing it all come to life. 🪡✂️

And the result? Beautiful curtains that help create a warm, welcoming atmosphere at our new neighbourhood spot! ❤️

We had SO much fun making these adorable doughnut plushies at our school holiday sewing camps! 💕🍩

Just look at all those colours, sprinkles, frosting and creative ideas!

And here's what we love most: every doughnut is different, just like the child who made it. 🥰

One chooses pink frosting and colourful sprinkles. Another goes for their own unique colour combination. Every child adds a little piece of their personality to their creation.

And that's the magic of sewing!

Kids don't just learn how to use a sewing machine. They get to make their own creative choices, solve little problems, develop patience and experience that wonderful feeling of saying…

“I made this MYSELF!” ✨

The school holidays might be over, but the creativity doesn't have to stop!
