**Seeking expressions of interest to learn sewing and upcycling in a group setting**
Hello there 🤗 Have you (yes YOU) been wanting to learn to sew, or you can't figure out how to use your sewing machine you bought or were gifted and would love to start using it?
Well here's your chance!
Briar Moss Collective is a small business run by our creative director Kara, and she is currently teaching sewing to other people with disabilities, and we have a ball working together to make things to sell at markets.
This helps others with disabilities like myself to try and bring in some extra income, to feel pride and joy when someone buys something they made, to feel like they are contributing to society, to build connection with each other, and to gain confidence and self esteem while socializing in a group.
We are starting sewing lessons in the next 2 weeks, and I was hoping to get some expressions of interest so I can choose days and times. One class will be Tuesdays 10am to 12pm. It will be a beginner class leaning to using a sewing machine and you will create a different project each week to put your newly learned skills into practice. I'll also be having at least one upcycling class on a different day, and if there are enough people I'll hold other beginner, upcycling and intermediate classes.
The beginner lessons will run for 2 hours a week for 8 weeks, in a spacious room with place of fabric cutting space. We will be meeting at Enterprise House in Wanneroo. The cost will be $40 per person per week, and classes are limited to 6 people. Materials will be provided, however you will have the option to bring in your own fabrics to use for your projects if you want.
I have enough sewing machines for everyone to use, but if you have your own you are more than welcome to bring it in to work with, and if you aren't sure how to use it I can help with that as well.
If this sounds interesting to you, please feel free to comment below or to message me privately to ask for more information or to sign up. Please also let me know your day and time preferences (weekdays am or pm except Thursday's pm) and I'll try to make the classes at times the most people can attend, so please put multiple options if you can.
We at Briar Moss are zero waste sustainable clothing, costumes and accessories, and we are all members of the disability, chronic illness, neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ communities, and we are very welcoming, open minded, and non Ajudgemental, and we hope to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all humans to help them find clothing that they love to wear.
If you think sewing for Briar Moss sounds like fun, you can also let me know if you'd like to come and join in on our sewing busy bees, and I will happily teach you sewing in exchange for helping out with sewing for our markets.
I can't wait to meet you all and get these lessons organized. I've got all the tools and equipment I need, and I'm super excited and ready to get going!
I hope to see you all soon!
And remember to:
