As part of the 102.5 ABC Perth Knitting for Newborns campaign supporting WIRF's Baby Bundles and Women's Care Packages programs, the spotlight is on the dedicated health professionals who support women, babies, and families every day, and the difference these care packages make during some of life's most challenging moments.
Yesterday, King Edward Memorial Hospital social workers Anita and Gillian joined ABC Perth to share insights into the vital role social workers play in supporting women, babies, and families through times of challenge, change, and uncertainty.
Their colleague Mel also spoke with presenter Amber Cunningham about her own experience of giving birth at just 23 weeks' gestation, an experience that inspired her to become a social worker at the hospital.
"No one prepares you for having a premature baby," Mel said.
"I love the emotional support that I can provide families in the NICU – I think that's my favourite part of my job."
