Estonian birch meets Donggala loom.🀎

Haruu Design from Tallinn. In Estonia, Haruu knows what it means to make with winter light and forest time. So they listened to the cloth.
Haruu life paired Buya Subi with Estonian organic linen and wool from Saaremaa sheep. Natural dyes from Estonian bogs. Birch bark buttons carved in their studio. The Buya Subi became the front panel, uncut, honoring the weaver’s pattern. Their linen created the structure. Zero waste cutting. Every scrap saved.

Two ancient technologies in one garment.
One from the tropics. One from the North.
Both made without harm. Both made to return to earth.

To the Mama-Mama penenun of Donggala: AitΓ€h for your trust.

From Albany to Vancouver ,🍁LJR Designs βœ¨πŸ’šπŸŒΏ.com.au showcase with Buya Subi project at EFWA runway in Vancouver.

This heirloom garment began with 2 metres of Buya Subi cloth, handwoven by women in Donggala, Central Sulawesi. 300 years of knowledge.

To honour the cloth, Linda paired it with European linen β€” two textile lineages in conversation. Linen brings drape, breath, and its own deep history. Donggla handmade textile brings structure, story, and sacred motifs .

The result: An heirloom piece designed to be kept, mended, and passed down.

From her Albany studio, this is slow fashion as it should be:

To the Mama-Mama penenun di Donggala: Terima kasih. Your work is the heart of this piece.
