Shortlisted / IDEA 2026

We’re thrilled to share that Black Blaze has been shortlisted in the Retail category of the 2026 Interior Design Excellence Awards!

A huge thank you to the team and jury for including Black Blaze amongst this year’s shortlist. It’s incredibly rewarding to see a project we loved creating receive this kind of recognition- and a real honour to be shortlisted alongside such an incredible calibre of Australian design and so many of our talented colleagues across the industry.

And to our wonderful clients- thank you for trusting us, backing the design and being such an engaged and collaborative part of the process. The best projects are the ones where everyone is fully invested in making something special, and this was absolutely one of those.

We’re very proud of this one!

On the Drawing Board /

A peek behind the scenes at an exciting workplace project currently taking shape in the studio.

From sketches through to rendered views, this is the stage where ideas are tested, details are refined and the character of a space really starts to emerge. We’re exploring everything from the broader spatial experience through to the finer joinery moments that will bring the workplace together.

There’s plenty happening on the drawing board with this on - and we’re looking forward to sharing more as it develops!

In Between /

Recently featured by , a glimpse into the stairwell at Earlwood Residence - the primary circulation spine connecting the home’s vertically stacked levels.

Here, movement through the house becomes an experience in itself. Rich, textured waxed walls catch and reflect the changing light, set against the depth and restraint of the matte brickwork. The contrast creates a sense of movement and variation as you move between levels, while reinforcing the material language carried throughout the home.

In Collaboration /

Some projects are defined as much by the team behind them as the design itself.

Earlwood Residence was a particularly rewarding collaboration between , .studios and - three teams working closely together across architecture, interiors and construction to realise a shared vision.

From the complexities of the build to the smallest interior details, this was a project that called for constant communication, problem solving and plenty of shared ambition. The result is something we’re incredibly proud to have been part of.

Thank you to the and teams for such a rewarding collaboration, and to our wonderful clients for trusting us with the journey.

Vaucluse Residence /

A glimpse into the dressing area of our latest Vaucluse Residence, captured through its own reflection.

Carrara Viola marble brings a sense of drama through the detailing, balanced by the softness of a generous chaise lounge. Rich materials, sculptural forms and a little indulgence come together to make this a dressing space designed to feel as special as the room beyond it.

Write DESIGNER /

Today is Census Night- and for us, there’s something important worth putting into words.

Design is a profession. A discipline, a skillset and a career that shapes the places we live, work and gather every day.

Behind every considered space is a designer making hundreds of decisions- balancing creativity with function, solving problems and turning ideas into something tangible.

So tonight, if you work in design, whatever your field, make sure it’s what you write.

DESIGNER.

Because being counted matters. The clearer we can see the scale and diversity of Australia’s design workforce, the stronger the recognition of the value our profession brings to the built environment and beyond.

Proud to be part of this industry, and proud to see the DIA championing its future.

On the Drawing Board /

A glimpse into the studio as a new project takes shape - a penthouse development within a historic heritage building in New Zealand.

There’s something particularly exciting about working with an existing architectural story. The challenge is finding the balance between respecting what’s already there and introducing a new layer that feels considered, relevant and distinctly of its time.

This one is firmly in the works with plenty more to come!

Material Meets Mission /

For the Bondi Junction fitout, we wanted the design to reflect the brand’s commitment to considered, more sustainable choices.

Stainless steel forms the foundation of the space, while recycled Frank Green bottles have been repurposed to create the structure of the central kiosk - giving a material born from the brand’s own products a second life within the store.

It’s a small but meaningful example of how a brand’s values can become part of the physical design, rather than simply sitting behind it.
