I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what we carry.
Not the things anyone can see. The other stuff.
The responsibility of keeping a family going. Making enough money. Running a business. Raising kids. Balancing life. Looking after elderly parents. Being the dependable one. Being the strong one. Sick family members. Or just...you.
Then there’s the old stuff. The suitcase you didn't quite unpack.
Grief we never really dealt with. Relationships that changed us. People we lost. Things that happened years ago that we packed away somewhere because life didn’t stop long enough for us to deal with them.
So we carried them. And carry them well we do... most of the time.
And I reckon some of us have become so freaking good at carrying things that we don’t even realise how heavy the load has become.
I’ve had some incredible conversations lately with people who are tired. Exhausted.
Not necessarily falling apart. Just… carrying a lot. Strength.. and well.. being strong.
There’s a difference.
Because strength isn’t about how much you can pile onto your back before your knees finally buckle.
And carrying something isn’t the same as healing from it.
Maybe some things aren't ours to carry anymore.
Maybe some things need talking about.
Maybe sometimes we just need to look across at someone we trust and say:
“Hey. The load’s getting a bit heavy.”
And hopefully, somebody answers:
“10-4 good buddy.. I got you matey.”
