Go back far enough and you may have a Betty, Dorothy, Marjorie or Norma in the family. These were the popular names in the 1920's and 1930's.

This arrangement is in honour of my late Aunty Ruby. I thought of her when I purchased this little vintage vase for 50 cents in a local op shop. It's filled with flowers of yesteryear such as poppies, ranunculus, carnations, sweet pea and a little bit of the snowball tree.

I also tried to make sure the flowers were 'matching' as my Aunty Ruby always had to be 'just so'. When I visited her she would always have her matching beads and shoes as well as the appropriate wig for the occasion!

Day 5 and our still look lovely. They are the same vase of flowers I posted on this page on Monday believe it or not. Flowers last better when they are in water rather than floral foam. They've been in a warm house on the sideboard this week. I added a sachet of chrysal flower preservative on day 1 as this seems to make a difference to longevity. I just changed the water this afternoon.

As these flowers continue, they seem to relax and take on their own rhythm in the vase. Flowers like this, from the garden, are a living art form- they continue to change and move gracefully in the vase as time marches on.
