Take advantage of the cool change and join us for this family fun picnic, celebrating 40 years of the flying school at Aldinga. At 1pm today at Adelaide Biplanes with swing band Lucky Seven Swing, BBQ, cake stalls, coffee, ice cream, strawberries and cream. Very vintage, very cool!

An Afternoon On The Strip

On Sunday 12th February 2017, this country Flying School will have been teaching students to fly for 40 years. Awesome!

Shall I let this anniversary slip quietly by? Shall I or shan't I?

Finally, when I asked the girls that help me to fundraise, I received a resounding .... NO, WE CAN'T LET THIS SLIP BY! We will organize an afternoon in just 4 weeks! All proceeds that we make on the afternoon will go to Come Fly Inc. This is a fund that we have set up in 2010 to help students learning to fly. To date we have given out Come Fly Gift Vouchers totalling nearly $60,000.

An Afternoon on the Strip is going to be just that .... From 1300 .... A rare opportunity to sit on that luscious green grass along the front of our office .... to come with your own picnic basket for an afternoon feast if you wish, picnic blanket, director's chairs, and just relax back and listen to that awesome band Lucky Seven Swing playing popular music from the 1940's through to the 60's, between 1400 and 1600.

We will have stalls with 'Pig in a Blanket' ( a BBQ gourmet pork sausage with slaw and spicy plum sauce), Wine, Beer, Cider and soft drinks Stall, Cream Teas (Scone, Raspberry Jam and Cream), Strawberries and Cream, small cakes and an Evercream Ice Cream Cart too in case you want to add to your picnic!

Then of course there are the memories that come with 40 years of teaching, from those early days in the 1970's when South Coast Air Centre began, the students and the stories, the Instructors, CFI's and where are they now? The passions and dreams achieved, the solos, oh my goodness all of those solos!! If you know anyone that has learnt to fly here or an Instructor, or anyone who loves aviation down south, then please find them and let them know we are having 'An Afternoon on the Strip'.

Vintage games night raising funds to help Aldinga Airfield don't forget to book!

SKITTLE ALLEY CHALLENGE | SATURDAY 28th NOVEMBER

The vintage Skittle Alley will once again roll back the door for a night of fun and games. This time, it's all about the skittles, with more rounds and more action! So gather a team and take on the challenge, with all funds raised once again going towards The Aldinga Aviation EPA Challenge.

We've raised close to $42,000 to date, so please spread the word, come and have some fun and support the EPA Challenge.

SO WHY DO YOU WANT TO FLY TAILWHEEL?

That’s way too hard!! ......

This is an often heard comment! ......

Little do they know!!

There you are, new RAAus Pilot Certificate or new GA Recreational Pilot Licence in your hand, maybe an experienced PPL/CPL/ATPL .... and looking for the next challenge.... a foray into the semi secret world of Tailwheel aeroplanes may just be the catalyst for you to really start to enjoy your flying again.

Challenged you most certainly will be! Out of your comfort zone? Well yes, maybe at the start. Soon enough though you may start to wear that little grin that says.... 'This is awesome!'

Your basic aircraft control skills will be reviewed, broadened and deepened, you will start to become much more accurate, smooth and skilful in the way that you fly. The search for the perfect ‘3 pointer’ may well last a lifetime, but there will be some that get very close!

Old and interesting aeroplanes may well feature in your ambitions and most of them in our experience are Tailwheel aeroplanes. The modern world of high performance experimental aeroplanes is also opened up to you. Once you have flown the responsive agile RV range of aircraft you may not always be satisfied with the more staid Nosewheel GA types. You will not find any of us pouring scorn on these venerable nosewheel aircraft though, just that when you want to fly for pure fun, you are more likely to push the RV or the Great Lakes out ....
The basic Tailwheel endorsement is planned for around 7 hours flying, this of course gives you just enough basic skill and knowledge to realise how much you do not know! The pathway to becoming a true Tailwheel Pilot will be a bit longer, but eminently achievable and enormous fun along the way.

Beware though, once you start down this road it may become one that you travel on for a long time!
