It’s been a long time since I’ve made any clothing, I’ve been meaning to make something for my daughter pretty much since she was born nearly 3.5 years ago (where has that time gone?! 🤷🏼‍♀️). So I finally got around to making a dress for her featuring a treasure pocket, as much as she disliked posing for the photos she loves it 🤩
Merry Christmas! 🎄

Was a great night at the Hedland Art Awards opening, so many amazing artworks. I was pleased to see a red dot next to my work when I went in to have another look this morning as well. Apparently it was bought on the opening night as a gift for a respected long term Hedland resident who reportedly broke down in tears when she found out her friend had bought it for her.

It's only taken me almost two years but I finally got around to creating another artwork and it has been selected into the finals of the Hedland Art Awards! After devoting myself entirely to my now one year old daughter I thought it was time to do something for myself and get creating again.
I hand stitched some cotton and silk fabrics onto paper and filled in all the detail with graphite pencil. It is our local Hedland floral emblem, the green bird flower morphing into a bird that I often see around here as well, the beautiful rainbow bee eater. Aptly named 'Bird Flower', this framed piece can be viewed alongside many other incredible artworks at the Port Hedland Courthouse Gallery from 6pm this Thursday (18th) at the opening event and awards ceremony.

Utilising my fabric scraps in a different way - I've just finished my first piece that will form a series of Western Australian bird artworks, drawn with graphite and layered with natural fabric that is hand stitched on to quality cotton paper.
This one is the beautiful white-plumed honeyeater that I see flying around my place everyday, a couple are currently nesting in my neighbours passionfruit vine.

Looking forward to returning to the West End Markets in Port Hedland tomorrow with a fine collection of hand stitched brooches and neckpieces. I have partnered up on a stall with my very talented friend Janelle who has been madly crocheting up some beautiful rag rugs.
Come check out our unique, hand made textile creations under the verandah of the manse, across from the Silver Star from 3:30pm :)

Once again, back in WA where I have found so much inspiration! Being surrounded by such beautiful landscape and so many other creatives has been just what I needed to get my creative juices flowing again. Living here without my sewing machine has also pushed me to try new things, putting my normal makings on hold for a while.
I designed and made this little piece in a recent FORM workshop using wood and flower seeds from DeGrey Station, all stitched together with h**p twine.
Loving experimenting with different materials :)
