Drawing from inspiration— how the Sarti logo came to be.

There’s something special about the stories behind creative trademarks: band names, artwork, song titles, and even logos. “ABBA” is an acronym of the bandmembers’ first names. “Duran Duran” a mad scientist in the 1967 sci-fi comedy Barbarella. They’re stories that almost always come with a caveat: allegedly. And that’s part of the fun. The story of the Sarti logo requires no such addendum. It’s as real as its history.

In 2008, many years after Sarti was born, David Milne, a local artist and dear friend of Celia, gifted her an ink drawing titled ‘The Gamesman & Narcissus’. At first, it was hung in her home. But over time, Celia realised that the drawing—two birds, one sharp and suited, the other more playful—reflected the very essence of Sarti. What started as artwork soon became something more: the perfect logo for the brand.

On the back of the drawing, David had handwritten the theme: Leadership and the Modern Corporation. A fitting connection, given Sarti has suited up Prime Ministers and many a business man over the years. The birds, with their mix of playfulness and precision, reflected the duality of what Sarti has always stood for.

Since then, the birds have appeared everywhere—on pocket squares, business cards, suit bags. They’ve become a part of Sarti’s identity, a reflection of what the brand stands for: timeless, but never rigid, sartorial with a playful edge.

Today, the original artwork hangs in the window of our South Melbourne sartoria, as a reminder of how old-world craftsmanship can evolve, just as we have. The balance in that drawing is the same balance we bring to every piece we create—personal, bespoke, and always crafted to perfection.
