Ever stood on a stage in a suit that felt so not you? Tell us what happened.

He says it right there in the clip: "I'm so not me." Any man who has spoken at a conference knows that feeling. His jacket pulls when he lifts his arm to point at the slide. The colour looks like it was picked for somebody else. He spends the first two minutes fixing his sleeves when he should be talking.

The audience picks up on it before he says a word. They don't care about the label. They see how he stands in the suit.

On stage, a founder is selling his idea and himself at the same time. When the clothes feel like his own, he forgets about them and just speaks.

Me? I would be right there. And if you told me you wear black so nobody looks twice, I would ask you one thing first. How does it feel?

You want to be taken seriously and still look like yourself. Black is beautiful when you choose it because you love it. Choosing it so you can disappear is a different story. A colour that feels like you is a really nice way to be seen as you.

Don't tell me colours don't matter. What were you wearing the day people finally listened to you?

I mean the day a colour hit the bomb on you. You walked into the meeting and people turned to look. They remembered your name, and they let you finish your sentence.

So many of us go back to black or navy the next morning, because it feels safe. I love hearing about the colour that broke that habit. It could be a suit, a dress, or a jacket you still reach for.

Founders, what held you back the last time you walked on stage to speak?

Was it the nerves? The crowd? Or a jacket you kept buttoning and pulling down before you said a word?

You want to walk out, find your mark and talk like nothing can hold you back. If you told me it was the jacket, I wouldn't be surprised. A jacket that pulls every time you lift your arm keeps you thinking about yourself. Your message comes second. The people watching notice you fixing your jacket before they hear your first line.

You're not bad on stage. Nobody ever told us that what we wear is part of the talk.

Your suit decides what the mirror shows you before you say a word.

When the mirror shows you a boss, you can't help but believe it. The people you meet believe it too. The fit and the styling make that picture, much more than the label or the colour.

Maybe every blazer you try fits your shoulders and pulls everywhere else. You were never the problem. Most blazers are made for one standard shape, and you're expected to fit into them. A suit made for your body moves with you. Fitted doesn't mean tight. You can still slide a finger inside the jacket, and that's how a good fit should feel.

Then the styling sets the tone. The same suit can take a silk shirt for a business meeting and a sheer shirt for a runway. That's why I dress you for the woman you're going to be, as well as the woman you are today.

Entrepreneurs ask me if a custom suit is worth it. It is, when it starts with you.

My first question to every founder is simple: tell me who you are. Then I translate your answer. How you stand decides the shoulder. Where you work decides the cloth. Your skin tone decides the colour. Get those right and nobody sees effort. They see you.

Do you think nobody wears suits anymore? I used to think the same.

Suits felt too harsh and too masculine for me, so I never wore one. Then I designed one for myself and learned something simple. When a suit fits, people stop noticing it. They remember you, and what you came to say.
