Life has a way of shifting in unexpected ways, and becoming a mother to Jack in May brought one of those profound changes. As I held him for the first time, I felt something shift deep within me—a quiet but undeniable evolution that words still fail to fully capture. While I’ve shared the sweet moments of his arrival, it’s the internal shape-shifting that I’ve been trying to put words to, especially as I’ve been juggling the beautiful chaos of being a creative, a business owner, and now, a mother.
I’d prepared for Jack’s arrival but hadn’t anticipated the seismic shift in my sense of self. This transformation first surfaced as a renewed connection with my body—a sensation I’d missed after years of health struggles. Knowing my body had created, birthed, and now nurtured him gave me a glimmer of hope, a corner turned.
Days turned into weeks, and my priorities evolved. The challenges of motherhood were real, but everything beyond the simple joys—sun on our faces, his fingers around mine—seemed less important. Surprisingly, returning to work felt daunting, not because of what awaited in the studio, but for the moments with Jack I’d miss. I feared that crossing that threshold would settle me back into old patterns, pulling me from this new self.
Yet, my creative spirit quietly called. What started as a soft whisper became a louder desire to create beyond motherhood. Last month, I returned to The Blackline studio, with both excitement and apprehension. Juggling feedings with work is daunting, and I know I’ll miss sweet moments with Jack, but there’s also a fresh sense of purpose. With time more precious, I’m clearer now about the creative I want to be and the work I want to pursue.
Thank you for joining me on this journey, for your patience as I find balance in this new season of motherhood and creativity. x
