More vintage fabric patches made into Boro collage works, embroidered with straight Sashiko stitches, using fine Sashiko thread in black, blue and brown and thicker cotton thread in cream.
Wasn't sure if a combination of the above colours would work, but quite happy with the end result.
These two collages are a combination of vintage Kasuri fabrics, deep/dark blue indigo cottons and silk kimono patches.
Kasuri (絣) is a traditional Japanese textile created using an ikat resist-dyeing technique, where warp and/or weft threads are tied and dyed before weaving. This process yields characteristic patterns with softly blurred, splashed edges. Designs appear on both sides of the reversible fabric, traditionally styled in indigo blues and creams.
Fabrics I have sourced or foraged during my trips to Japan over the years. Too special to just store away in a box.
Question now arrises, what will I make with these pieces, the usual zipper pouches or maybe small messenger bags? Any suggestions welcome 💙🤗
