We have in stock hand sewn tablecloths using the ancient technique of reverse applique, a tradition from Rajasthan and Gujarat. Traditionally as with patchwork it was developed to repurpose scraps of material. Artisans stack layers of fabric on top of each other and then draw a pattern on the top layer. The design is cut away and the edges are folded under and hemmed to the base fabric revealing the colour of the layer underneath. Often very colourful we have chosen a striking high contrast in black and white, it is also available as a rectangular cloth or throw with a subtle white on white where the design stands out through texture and shadow. One of the many goods we love to seek out for you, showcasing the skilled artistry of India.
