Soooooo…turns out…this task was a bit bigger than I anticipated.

Because our lovely Play Panel applicants took so much time filling out their forms, I’m going to please ask for a little bit more time to pick our first panel.

There are so many incredible families in there and I want to make sure I give this decision my full brain space.

We will announce the first Play Panel on Monday.

Thank you for understanding
(From your very tired, very busy small business mum.)

Wild idea...but fairy gardens don’t have to be pink, purple and covered in glitter.

(Although there is absolutely nothing wrong with a little fairy glitter.)

They can be mossy greens, soft browns, tiny mushrooms, stone pathways and little houses that look like they might have always been tucked away at the bottom of the garden.

That’s one of the things I love most about creating a fairy gardens.

There really aren’t any rules.

You can create a tiny fairy world that fits beautifully into your garden, add little treasures your kids find in nature and let their imaginations fill in the rest.

Because I think the best fairy gardens are the ones that leave you wondering…

Could a fairy actually live here?

Ooohhh I am loving this Sunday night routine of having a look through all our in-store and online orders to find the weekly favourites.

This week there has been a lot of school parties and baby showers.

Potions are still popular but our Fairy Garden Collection this week took first place.

With a lovely delivery of Djeco we have had stickers and craft kits flying out the door. With the new face painting kits being popular.

I really want to take one home to test on the kids.

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend and I can’t wait to see what everyone picks as favourites next week.

Well...WOW!

Applications for our very first Kuddly Kids Play Panel are officially closed, and I am genuinely blown away by how many wonderful families put their hands up to be part of it.

Thank you SO much to every single person who took the time to apply, tell me about your little people and share why you’d like to work with us.

This is the first time we’ve ever done anything like this, so seeing so many of you get excited about my little idea has been pretty special.

Honestly I expected maybe 20…possibly 30 applications. We ended up with over 195!

Now I have the slightly terrifying job of choosing our first Play Panel families…

I’m going to spend the next week properly reading through every application rather than rushing the process, and everyone who applied will hear from us by Friday 4th September.

Thank you again for wanting to be part of this. I really hope this is just the beginning of something wonderful.

I know there will come a time when they stop checking the garden for fairies.

When tiny doors are just tiny doors and a sprinkle of fairy dust doesn’t cause quite the same excitement.

And that’s okay, even if it makes my heart hurt a little. Our kids are supposed to grow up.

But I hope they never completely lose that part of themselves that wonders...what if?

The part that can turn a little patch of garden into an entire tiny magical world.

The part that finds wonder in little things and believes there might just be a bit more magic in the world than we can see.

Maybe that’s why I love fairy gardens so much.
They’re a little way to make the most of this wonderfully imaginative window of childhood while we’re lucky enough to be in it.

And between you and me, I’m still not entirely convinced there aren’t fairies at the bottom of the garden.

I have been watching what feels like a steady stream of small businesses announce their closure lately, and every single one makes my heart sink a little.

Before owning a small business, I don’t think I truly understood the depth of the hard work behind them

Now I know. With all my heart.

It’s usually a small number of people doing an enormous number of jobs. Trying things. Getting things wrong. Trying again. Paying the bills. Serving customers. Ordering stock. Cleaning floors. Answering emails at ridiculous hours.

And somehow finding the energy to open the doors and do it all again tomorrow.

So when I see a small business owner finally say, “That’s it. I’m done”, I can’t help but wonder what it took to get them there.

And I worry about what we’re slowly losing.

Because I love living in a community where I can buy my fruit from one family, grab a coffee from another, wander into a cute bookshop and find something I would never see in a big chain.

I don’t think the answer is that we all need to shop small, all the time. That’s not realistic. Our family certainly doesn’t.

But when we do have a choice, perhaps choosing small occasionally matters more than we realise.

Your morning coffee.

Apples for the kids lunchbox.

Flowers for a friend.

A birthday present.

Sharing your favourite business with a friend.

Even stopping to tell someone, “I love what you’ve created here.”

They’re tiny choices individually.

But collectively, they’re what keep this beautiful, slightly chaotic ecosystem of small businesses alive.

And I really want it to still be here for our kids to enjoy one day.

We have our favourites and best sellers. There is no surprise when they walk out the door.

But this strange things happens sometimes, when the energy changes on a product. A product that has sat on our shelves for so long, will all of a sudden sell out in one day.

I am so surprised every time it happens.
