Buttons by Brooke was born when my daughter needed hair accessories. I bought a DIY hair tie making kit from Ebay.

I make Fabric Covered Buttons that can decorate your hair, body and your home.

~ fridge magnets ~ jewellery ~ thumb tacks After completing my first hair tie set, I thought, that was easy, and started to make more. With school just around the corner, I was worried that multi-coloured hair clips would be against the school uniform policy. As a result, the first official “Buttons by Brooke” were made from the hem of my daughters new school dress. Soon making hair ties and snap clips, grew into a small hobby which then developed into a business. I started selling handmade items at local markets in Alice Springs on weekends. Over time the product range grew with customer requests. Fast forward several years, and we left the Territory for my home state of Victoria. Buttons by Brooke now attends local markets in the Swan Hill and surrounding communities.

Not Just a Button 💗

Four years ago, I arranged a collection of fabric-covered buttons into a heart.

I loved the idea, but turning it into a finished product wasn't quite as practical as I'd imagined.

So the buttons went back into their box.

Fast-forward to 2026, and some of those very same buttons have found a new purpose as my little Circle Button keepsakes.

With my first market in quite some time coming up this weekend, I've been reflecting on why I love handmade, the ideas that don't always go to plan, and the little gifts that can mean so much.

💗 $374 FOR LIPTEMBER! 💋

I'm delighted to share that my seventh Liptember campaign has officially wrapped up, with $374 raised against my $300 goal! 🎉
Last night, I finalised my donations, including contributions from lip product sales, Circle Box purchases, and an extra donation from a lovely customer.

Together, those added another $47 to the total.

One of the things I love about bringing my handmade creations and beauty products together is finding little ways to make a difference.

My Circle Boxes began as a Liptember project, but they're now something I'm continuing throughout the year.

For every Circle Box sold, I'll donate $5 to Liptember. And for every lip product purchased from me, another $1 goes towards the cause.

We've already started our 2027 fundraising with $10 from two Circle Boxes sold this month!

So whether you choose a thoughtful gift, a handmade creation, or a new lip product, thank you for supporting the little businesses and big causes that mean so much to me.

Thank you to everyone who helped make Liptember 2026 such a meaningful campaign.

Sometimes, the smallest purchases can contribute to something much bigger. 💗

When you don't know, you don't know! 💗

One of the things I love about learning something new is being able to share it with someone else.

Last week, my sister-in-law asked me why her lips were so dry despite constantly using lip balm.

What started as a simple conversation became this week's blog!

From weather and everyday habits to the products we're using, there are quite a few things that can affect our lips.

And apparently, there are still plenty of things we weren't taught about looking after ourselves. 😂

🤯 I realised something last night....

What does a 28cm cake tin have to do with buttons? Well, it turns out I've been tracing circles and cutting them out for way longer than I thought!

🎂 Buttons are nothing like cake, but the process is. Creating beautiful things is part of me, and for that, I'm grateful.

My pink Eiffel Tower pendant gets the honour of closing out 30 days of colour, buttons, and conversations about women’s mental health.

BLUE FOR A REASON 💙

A little blue from the Buttons archives today for National Police Remembrance Day.

As we remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty, I'm also thinking about the police and other frontline workers who regularly witness trauma as part of simply doing their jobs.

Looking after the people who spend their lives looking after others matters too.
