🤷‍♀️Here is another kind of saree that has been introduced in market as “Khadi on Khadi Jamdani’

Whilst not directly made in Bangladesh, it is named by the business as Jamdani. It’s neither monipuri nor jamdani. Not all geometric patterns can be called as Jamdani. Now a days so many “varieties” named as Jamdani have emerged in market, and to keep the knowledge fresh in our customers’ mind, this informative post becomes necessary. I believe that knowing your heritage and tradition is necessary and a way to carry on the origin of one’s own identity.

HISTORY OF THE NAME

Local Name:

The fine cotton textile—a specialized, highly artistic form of muslin—was originally crafted in Bengal (primarily around Dhaka) and historically called Dhakai after the city.

Influence:

During the Mughal era, Persian was the official court language. Because the royal courts deeply admired the artistic floral and plant motifs woven into the cloth, the Persian descriptive term Jamdani eventually replaced or complemented the local name.

Unlike printed or embroidered cloth, Jamdani patterns are created on the handloom using a discontinuous supplementary weft technique.Visual Effect: The individual floral and artistic designs look like they are floating on the lightweight, transparent fabric, much like decorative flowers arranged inside a vase.
