a peek behind the ruched curtain, at the patternmaking screen
this is what our ruched dresses, tops and skirts look like before they’re pieced together
it’s a tessellation of shapes that use 2-3 times more fabric than a regular flat cut-and-sew garment
every single row of elastic is sewn individually,
before the ruched shape is cut by hand
for plaid or textured fabrics (i.e. all of them), we then match the patterns and grid lines across seams,
ensuring a satisfying, cohesive finish
to save cost, we could save fabric
but then the ruching would lose its shape and unfurl across the body
which defeats the fun of it all
