A little peek at what's been happening behind the scenes at RJF HQ! 🧵

With the kids back at school, I'm finally starting to get on top of the mountain of orders that built up over the holidays.

We've also got two wholesale orders in production at the moment, including a lovely batch of our sewing-themed storage tins.

I do love seeing all the different designs together! They're rather handy for keeping sewing bits and pieces organised, too.

And while these ones are heading off to a wholesale customer, our tins are also available individually on our website. They make lovely little gifts for the sewists in your life (or perhaps a treat for yourself!). 🎁

Sometimes the quiet fabrics deserve a little attention too!

I'm loving this combination of soft grey, white and warm beige. It's subtle enough to work as a neutral, but the scattered little dashes give it plenty of interest without being too busy.

I can see this working beautifully for a relaxed T-shirt, a casual dress or even a gorgeous little gender-neutral baby outfit.

Sometimes you don't need a bold print to make a lovely garment!

Our 2027 Rubyjam Wall Calendars have arrived at RJF HQ!

We've been producing our annual wall calendars since 2019, and it's always exciting to see another year's edition arrive.

The 2027 calendars are now available, ready to take pride of place in your sewing room, kitchen or wherever you like to keep track of life's little adventures!

Has anyone else noticed how many AI-generated images are popping up on sewing and fabric pages lately? And don't even get me started on AI-generated sewing patterns. Ugh! 🙄

I find it a little disappointing, to be honest. I follow those pages because I want to see real fabric, real sewing and what people are actually making. And lately, so many of the images are starting to look the same.

I'm certainly no professional photographer, and my photos aren't always terribly polished. I'll happily admit to removing a background and replacing it with a stock image when it makes for a nicer product photo!

But the fabric itself? That's real. That's what I want people to see.

I'm not looking for perfectly styled imaginary sewing rooms or impossibly beautiful fabric collections. I just want to see what people are actually sewing with and making.

So over here at Rubyjam, we're keeping it real and keeping it simple. Real fabric, real projects, real sewing adventures (and the occasional sewing disaster 😂).

Today's offering is a lovely rainbow of cotton lycra jersey solids, photographed while packing a customer's order.

And if you look closely, you'll notice you're actually seeing the wrong side of the fabric. That's how it was folded, ready for shipping, and I photographed it exactly as it was.

Just keeping it *so* real over here. 😂🌈

Remember that power outage I mentioned earlier in the week? 😂

Well, today's the day! I printed my orders and shipping labels at home this morning so I can still head into Rubyjam, pick and pack everything, and hopefully get a little sewing done while the power is off.

With no great rush to get to work, I took the opportunity to drop in and visit a friend who hasn't been well.

While I was there, one of his peacocks decided to put on quite the show for me! 🦚

Isn't he magnificent?!

Although, as you can see from the second photo, they're considerably more impressive from the front than they are from behind. 😂

Anyway, enough admiring the wildlife. Time to get those orders packed and, with a bit of luck, finally spend some quality time with my sewing basket! That seam ripper is still calling my name...

You know you're missing sewing when you start looking forward to UNPICKING. 😂🧵

I've been itching to get back to my sewing machine, but the last few weeks have had other ideas.

Between being sick (Human metapneumovirus took down the whole family, that was fun), shoulder pain that's limited what I can do (so much fun), school holidays and the usual demands of running Rubyjam, I haven't managed to get much sewing done at all.

I've got projects waiting, ideas floating around in my head, and I keep finding my mind wandering back to my sewing basket.

I've even caught myself thinking about finally unpicking that sashing on my crazy quilt that's been sitting in the naughty corner for months.

I WANT TO UNPICK. That's how desperate things have become. 😂

The kids went back to school today, and it'll take me a couple of days to get back on top of everything. I'd even pencilled Thursday in as a sewing day.

Then I received a cheerful little text from our electricity provider informing me that they've scheduled a power outage for Thursday. Thanks, guys. Really appreciate the timing. 🙄😂

But perhaps all is not lost. Unpicking doesn't require electricity, and I could always spend the day cutting out a few projects. Sometimes the cutting out is the biggest stumbling block between wanting to sew something and actually sewing it. Although cutting isn't exactly a mindless task either... unless you enjoy wearing your prints upside down and your fabric stretching vertically instead of horizontally. 😂

So perhaps Thursday won't be a complete write-off after all! Keep your fingers crossed for me!

FRESH JAM!

School holidays have taken a slightly unexpected turn at our place... the kids have taken up playing Dungeons & Dragons with their friends!

So naturally, our current school-holiday obsession has inspired a few new designs for the JAMPOD library. The kids are absolutely loving it and they're off their screens! You've never seen such a giggly group of elves and orcs. 😂

And I'm not sure who's having more fun at this point... them playing D&D, or me coming up with things to print!
