The Retail Ranger

The Retail Ranger Helping Small Businesses that believe in a unique customer service experience & want to take it to the next level through Care, Culture and Consistency.

The Retail Ranger (Part-time Retail Consultant / Contractor / Blogger) was established in May 2017 by Neil Carrasco. " I love helping people and I love customers. Retail is all about caring for People. I set up The Retail Ranger so we could provide support and level of training for Small Businesses and Retailers who believe in their people, product and services that customers can engage in. I also

wanted a page built, so we can recognize great shopping experiences that we all have encountered. There are businesses out there doing a fantastic job where the staff and the owners don't get the credit or recognition they thoroughly deserve. I want to see this happen more often. These days product and technology are constantly changing up in Retail, but one common denominator that doesn't change a lot in retail is People. I know first hand the rewards and challenges of managing a business, owning a business and managing people, I have been there emotionally and financially through great and tough times. Honesty, Integrity and Trust is what I live by. My passion is people, from engaging with Owners, Staff, Suppliers, Customers, Centre Management and even your Local Community. The Retail Ranger is there to help build and add to a culture that is infectious to staff and customers everyday. I have experienced a lot in 26 years of retail and loved every minute of it. It's been over half my life." Neil Carrasco

Neil comes with over 26 years of Retail and Customer Service experience, both from a Corporate and Owner/Franchisee level. In April 2017, Neil and his wife Katie finished a wonderful journey with The Athlete's Foot Australia after 21 years. Not only working at the corporate level of managing company stores (Centrepoint/ Chatswood and Liverpool) but also owning their own stores at Liverpool (2005 to 2017) and in partnership with Bankstown (2009 to 2012). Neil's experience in retail also extends to the department store environment. He worked his earlier years at Target and eventually at Grace Bros (which became MYERS) While working at The Athlete's Foot Australia Neil studied part-time at TAFE a Degree in Marketing and a University Degree in Commerce - Management / Marketing. Over the many many years of working in Retail especially on the front end of the business, Neil understands most challenges staff will encounter on all levels. But, he also recognizes the personal rewards they can walk away with if they have the "WANT too, rather than HAVE too" approach to customer service. There is so much Neil would love to share with you as The Retail Ranger. Just simply contact him via email at [email protected] or Inbox him on how he operates the business that could be beneficial for you.

When was the last time you had a staff training session?

Most of the trust built with customers starts with your people. Nuture them, train them, coach them and mentor them.

Creating that unique shopping experience and culture can be very infectious for customers.

You can instantly make a difference by VALUING your staff. Invest in them and they will invest in you and your customers.

The closure of Betts Kids Shoes nationwide is a very sad time for not only for customers but for the many staff. Unfortunately with the increase of online shopping, retailers like Betts Kids Shoes who are specialists in fitting proper footwear are now in a position where they can't rely purely just on Back to School trade.

With retail being a 365 day trading period, retailers like Betts need traffic flow and trade for the other 11 months of the year. January trade for Betts Kids would always be a massive month of trade, but that business generated can only last a few months later. With Rent and operational costs going up or already at a high level and the same costs every month it becomes very hard to sustain.

What is very heartfelt is reading the outpour of support that staff are receiving from customers on the loss of their jobs. But also the need for retailers like Betts Kids Shoes to be needed in a physical state. After 26 years in retail I strongly encourage consumers to support local businesses with your feet. Online will never go away, but unfortunately if we keep using that channel all the time there is no option but retailers to close up physical shops or reduce staff dramatically.

We live now in an era where time does get the better of us. But if you can, do whatever you can to Support Local Businesses. They are the backbone of this country. If you want to make a difference to the lives of those staff losing their job at Betts Kids Shoes, go in and thank them in person for their loyalty and contribution of service to your family. Believe me, that experience they get from you is something they will always remember and cherish forever.

The Retail Ranger

We’re refocusing on our flagship Betts stores and our history in children’s shoes will end with Betts Kids stores around Australia to close, along with a small number of Betts stores and many of our Airflex stores, which will become part of the Munro Footwear group. We will reopen some stores as new Betts stores. ⠀

Something that hasn’t changed is our commitment to you. You will still find Australia’s best Mens and Ladies shoes in our Betts stores and online. We will continue to honour all gift cards and vouchers, including Frequent Feet loyalty cards, within any Betts store and process returns, exchanges and refunds as per our normal policies.⠀

To mark the end of our long and proud history in children’s shoes we’re inviting our customers to share their childhood memories of being fitted for new shoes inside a Betts store. They may have been shoes for school, joggers for a sports carnival or fancy shoes for a special event - generations of young Australians have left our stores with a smile. Share your memories, pictures and stories with us by tagging and we’ll post as many as possible to our Instagram and Facebook.⠀

We would like to take the opportunity to sincerely thank our customers past and present for their loyalty and support over many years. ⠀

For more information on these changes, view our media statement on our website.

Culture, Culture, Culture.
How much do you value the feedback of your people on the frontline of your business. Walk with them not around them. The best leaders learn everyday from those around them and take their colleagues on a team journey of success and personal rewards.

A big thank you and massive wrap to Lola from GIO Insurance who was absolutely brilliant on her assistance and service on their insurance policies. She made the process so easy and most importantly she made great conversation with us as a client returning back to them. In any service industry it can be always challenging to get it right 100% of the time. But when you see someone who cares about helping and showing intent you will always give people or businesses another chance.

"Don't always throw people or businesses under the Bus, it doesn't hurt to give them another chance. It can be just as rewarding for them as it is for you"

You just know when a shopping centre has a strong customer following when you can see the carpark is full and the centre has a great ambience about it. Great quality retailers that attract the crowds. Great job Stockland Wetherill Park. 18 months after its expansion there's a desire to shop this centre with a fantastic external dining area and new food court.
