Akubra hats have been handcrafted in Australia for over a century. The first Akubra workshop opened in Glenorchy, Tasmania in 1876—moving to larger premises in Waterloo, New South Wales in 1912—then settling in Kempsey, New South Wales in 1974. We are still proudly manufacturing there today after fifty years.

Strand Hatters’ calling is to showcase hand-crafted headwear styles from around the world. Be it a panama from the mountains of Ecuador, or an Akubra from Australia, we travel the world to source culturally iconic styles and ethically-produced brands for our store.
