What’s happening at the studio?

Beside devouring a few book to find inspiration I am working on a new print for a cool collab 😃

Would you like to be part?

I am gathering sentences and comments that we often hear to condone the sick behaviour of a sexual predator. Also what is usually said to question the credibility of the victim!

Things like….

She was asking for it

What was she wearing?

Was she alone at night?

But she was under the influence

She shouldn’t go out that late

Oh and things we have to listen to! Being called

A poor little girl when she is a grown up women! 😡

Can you think of any other sentence that fits in this category, share in the comments ⬇️

While in Chile I improvised a screen printing studio to replace the hankie I lost one of the many night I spend dancing cuecas.

This dance has captured my heart and even now, back in Sydney I won’t stop to listen to it 🫀😃 I get goosebumps all over when hearing its rhythm and lyrics.

I am intrigued by why this dance, music, poetry and culture has caught my soul in such a profound way. I am guessing the call of the motherland is getting louder and louder every day🫀

I close my eyes and I imagine my hankie fluttering in the air, I look up to the sky while my feet are firmly stamping the ground. My pulse is beating to the rhythm of the chilena and my heart cracks open inside my chest. Thanks life for letting me feel alive 🙏🏽

I write this words as the train departs from Salem. Yes! Somehow I ended up around here with a day spare so I made my way to the witchy town.

At Salem Witch Museum I read: In history, the belief in magic can be loosely understood as a set of traditions and rituals that allowed people to explain the unexplainable and feel as though they could exert control or influence in a chaotic world.

I thought a lot about the meaning of magic as I browsed the shops selling witchy paraphernalia, endless kinds of oracle cards, stones, candles, brooms and little bags of herbs.

Being in Salem made me realised how things have changed, now we can openly proclaim ourselves as witches and buy all this magical gadgets but back in 1962 we would’ve get hanged by acting differently or using natural medicine as remedies.

But not much has changed… nowadays other beliefs puts us at risk, defending nature or human rights can gets us into trials. The story of the bad and the good keeps threatening the freedom of doing.

Most of the women killed in Salem didn’t proclaim themselves as witches but their behaviour being different made them to be considered as one.

I like the definition of magic that my dear teacher Sharon Gannon gives 🪄 magic is a shift in perception ✨ this definition invites to question the way we look at things, the reflection of our deeds and thoughts.

Over 25 innocent people died in Salem during the witch trials, most of them were hanged, burning alive didn’t happen here.

🔥✨🪄I made these set of embroideries to remind me that magic lives within and the embers will spark as we tuned in to our hearts and intuition 🪄✨🔥

That was a BIG adventure! 🚐 Travelled to Seven Sister with Krishna van full of excitement and clothes to debut at 🌸🎪

My heart is full of gratitude for being able to take my art to another festival that celebrates womanhood and the feminine energy! Which is so powerful and inspiring ❤️‍🔥

As soon as I landed in Taungurung country my heart softened and the guards came down as the earth welcomed me and all women into a safe space 🙏
It’s hard to explain in words the feeling of being there!

But is freeing to spend time with other women who are interested in supporting each other and making you feel welcome expressing yourself exactly as you are!

Thank you to for having me 🙏 and facilitating a space for magic and healing.

Thank you to all women who visited our stall and took a piece of Yonitown home 🙏 your purchases encourage me to keep bringing to life my creative ideas.

And I thanks to my life force for bringing the courage to do what is a bit scary but feels right in every cell of my body!

Thank you 🙏

Yonitown’s studio is hOMe 💙 I came back to Sydney five weeks ago to spend most of my days here, amongst all the tools and gadgets to bring alive my creative ideas 🫟 it gets really messy sometimes!

It’s my safe place and the space I miss the most when I’m away for my other job (installing public art around the world)

The aim was to bring alive as many ideas and design possible in this short period - I am heading back to my motherland Chile in two weeks! BUT before I go, Yonitown is going to 💗🌸👏🏽
The oldest woman festival in Australia!!! I am super ready to meet a new sisterhood 👯‍♀️✨ swim in the river naked, move slow, soak up the breeze, go to sleep when the sun sets and get to meet other women !!!

Are you coming??

Lots of bright colours and flowery pattern on the making 🌸🌻🪻🌺

Cutting womb hugger’s pieces, stitching wrap skirts, keeping the altar fresh, using crystal and stones to weight down the pattern pieces, it all feels meaningful and intentional 🫶
