Perfectionism is a self-destructive and often addictive belief system built around the idea that if I look perfect and do everything perfectly, I can avoid or minimise feelings of shame, judgment, or blame.

Over time, this can become exhausting 🫠 and quietly take a toll on how we relate to food 🍽️, our body 🪞, and our sense of self-worth.

It can show up as rigid food rules, anxiety around eating, constant self-criticism, or a feeling of never being “enough,” no matter how much effort is made.

On the outside, it can look like control or discipline, but underneath it is often driven by pressure, fear, and a need to feel safe 💭

If this resonates with you, you’re not alone 🤍 These patterns are understandable, and they can be gently worked with and changed with support.

What does a lack of boundaries look like? 🌿

A lack of boundaries can show up as difficulty saying no, overcommitting yourself, or constantly putting others’ needs before your own.

It may look like:
✨ Feeling overwhelmed or emotionally drained
✨ Feeling resentful or taken advantage of
✨ Struggling to protect your time and energy
✨ Feeling disrespected, unheard, or burnt out

Without healthy boundaries, stress and emotional exhaustion can build over time.

How to Set Boundaries 🌿

Step 1 — Identify your limits
Notice what makes you feel uncomfortable, overwhelmed, stressed, or emotionally drained.

Step 2 — Communicate your needs clearly
Use calm and respectful “I” statements such as:
✨ “I need you to speak to me respectfully during disagreements.”
✨ “I appreciate the invitation, but I need to say no this time.”
✨ “I need some time to myself after work to recharge.”

Step 3 — Start small and stay consistent
Begin with small, manageable boundaries and reinforce them consistently over time.

Remember: setting boundaries isn’t about pushing people away — it’s about protecting your wellbeing, honouring your needs, and creating healthier relationships. 💛
