Hello
I’ve been the most quiet I have ever been in all my time owning my small business and wanted to explain why. For the past month , I have been dreading writing this post ; I’ll write it , then delete , start writing again and delete it , again and again and again .
Over a month ago , we had to make the decision to put down our elderly cat and it hit me much harder than I expected.
So much of my little business was built around her. From my business name , ( Meow was my daughter’s first word , then Mama was her second ) . She was part of every little part of my business journey from keeping my stock deliveries safe at the door when I wasn’t home , to packing orders with me until 3am , she’d have her spot in the corner of my sewing room , respond to all your emails and DMs from my lap and she loved sneaking into product photos.
After leaving the vet , there was a beautiful rainbow that led into the clouds . We like to believe it was her crossing the rainbow bridge . But as beautiful as that is , Every time I opened my camera roll to post, there she was in almost every memory of this business journey. It’s made me being able to scroll through my camera feed to make a post so difficult . So I just haven’t.
Posting became harder than I knew how to explain.
I just needed some time.
But I also realised something important this business exists because of the love, comfort and joy she brought into my life, she was my biggest support system helping me deal with our covid lockdown journey , and I don’t want to quietly erase that.
Instagram only allows me to post 20 pics , I could have posted hundreds . Maybe if I post these , partly because she deserves to be remembered, and partly because it feels like a healing step for me too. Maybe I can move on and begin to post and keep this small business going .
Afterwards, I’ll be moving these memories onto my computer so I can stop avoiding my camera roll and be present .But before I do, I wanted to let her have one more moment being part of the business she helped me build 🖤
Thank you for being patient with me while I disappeared.
She wasn’t just a cat . She was my cat . And her name was Shadow 🐾
