I have just finished this exquisite silk satin dressing gown for the customer's Bridal trousseau.

Made for a Size 12 lady, the bodice was double lined. French seams were used due to the nature of the silk. If using polyester to overlock seams, the fibres are too bulky for a fine silk.

We added genuine french lace in an Art Deco design setting off the neckline and sleeves.

My passion is sewing with genuine fibres...not polyesters that when burnt leave a plastic reside!! Something to ponder about the impact of clothing on our health.

Take a guess at the amount of material in this hem!! All up, 14 metres...including the lining. To alter the hem, crinoline has to be removed, realigned to the new length and sewn on twice....to ensure that the netting stays in place. In effect, more than 28 metres of material was sewn to shorten this dress.

This Mother of the Groom garment was recently completed by me. We selected the design, chose materials that suited the clients skin type and colouring; made a toille to check all aspects of the dress fitted well; three fittings and completed. We used silk dupion, lining it with a matching colour.

I had the privilege of altering this stunning gown purchased by a customer for her Formal. When shortening a stretch material, , the garment has to be hung for 24 hours to let the fibres settle. Congratulations to Storm Lahiffe for her stunning photography.

I had the honour of working out how to have these medals attached to a coat - making sure that they sat straight on the garment. You will see from the second photo that the medals are supported internally by a piece of fibreglass. A button was used to anchor the medals.

I have been working on these two garments for a customer. She purchased material from Alla Moda (an exquisite fabric store in Brisbane). The brief was to design garments that suited her body shape using a different style of cuff on both. The colourful linen dress has a cuff that could be turned up; the other, a very fine wool/linen blend has a cuff cut on the bias with two false pockets, also cut on the bias and secured with two mother of pearl buttons. Both dresses are lined in a very fine silk. Silk is absolutelly exquisite to touch and wear as a dress lining when compared to polyester linings. A very happy lady :)

I thoroughly enjoy working on Bridal alterations. This garment needed a complete corset, due to the very fine material used to make the main garment. We needed to make a corset enabling the Bride to wear her dress. This is the result. The thrill is to see the dress fitting the Bride and then to receive her photos of the day. With many thanks to the lovely Bride :) :)

Here's an incredible Studebaker dress (1980's vintage), cut on the bias. I had to downsize the dress from a Size 12 to Size 10 in the bodice and waist...fitting the beautiful customer perfectly. Being cut on the bias means that the dress wraps around the body perfectly but also makes it harder to sew....:) the threads are on an angle....not on the horizontal and vertical weave (aka warp and weft). Straps were removed and additional boning inserted :) #
