My name is Jessica and I've been cross stitching for 20+ years. Jess

I have also taken up general hand embroidery and am always looking to expand my skill set so I can create for myself, my friends, my family, and you. If you love handstitched art but don't quite have the confidence to do yourself I am available to undertake commissioned pieces. From time to time I have a few piece done ready to ship, such as small hoop framed embroideries and button art. I also cr

Planning my entry for next year's Easter Show and the called for fabric in the pattern is 'light natural'.
I really want to use my stash as much as possible at the moment. I have various count fabrics in the colours of ecru, cream, antique ivory, platinum, raw and white, but none of them seem quite right.
Last week the online grocery shopper substituted my regular intense blend for something smoother (😝), so I thought I'd kill two birds, and have tried my hand at dyeing some fabric with coffee. I also did a few random offcuts of other white fabric to see how they'd turn out (top right).

"Forest Fortunes"

The foundation of this piece is a specialised fabric woven with gold, providing a subtle, shimmering ground that interacts with changing light. The forest is rendered in variegated cotton thread, creating an organic, shifting gradient of forest greens and earth tones.

The repetition of the coniferous motif is intentionally disrupted by the placement of the two golden trees. These serve as symbols of resilience and individuality, standing in luminous contrast to the muted, shadowed canopy surrounding them.

Inspired by the pine plantations that provide literal fortunes to those who live and work in the Snowy Valleys, I invite the viewer to find stillness in the meditative rhythm of the geometric representation and discover their own personal fortunes.

"Turning Leaves of Tumut" is now on display and available to purchase

'Turning Leaves of Tumut' is a counted threadwork study of the iconic deciduous trees β€” English Elm, London Plane, and Lombardy Poplarβ€” that define the streetscapes of Tumut.

Ensuring an authentic silhouette by using physical specimens collected from around the town, the composition of each leaf explores the shared elegance of both natural structure and ornamental intricacy;-
β€’ The Anatomical: One half of each leaf is rendered in single stranded backstitch, tracing the network of veins. This minimalist approach highlights the 'bones' of the leaf.
β€’ The Decorative: The opposing half is filled with a diverse array of embroidery stitches, creating a delicatley complex interpretation of organic texture.

The thread and bead colours have been selected to represent the full lifecycle of the seasons - from the brilliant emeralds of spring to the rusted ochres and deep burgundies of a Tumut autumn.
This triptych invites the viewer to look closer at the canopy above them and appreciate the beauty of our shared environment.

I'm not sure how much stitching I'll be able to do in the coming months, but it feels very satisfying to know that these four are looking magnificent and are headed out to be admired by others 🀩
