ARCHIBALD 🩷 Anna by finalist in the Archibald prize 2026 🌈 and some of our favourites from the Archibald & Sulman Prize 💙 This painting represents our RWB world to us, thank you Techa our forever wizard collaborator 🪄🎨🎸 we love you ❤️

This portrait depicts Anna Plunkett, co-founder and creative director of the Australian fashion label Romance Was Born, which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year.

‘I chose to paint Anna not only for her significant contribution to contemporary fashion, but for our long-standing creative relationship. Over many years, we have collaborated closely, my practice extending into textile design for the label, turning my own and other artists’ archival drawings and paintings into pieces for Romance Was Born,’ says Técha Noble, a Sydney-based artist and first-time Archibald finalist.

‘Our working relationship has always felt electric and fluid. We share the same reference points and inspirations, and it was thrilling to watch early sketches and ideas realised in their wondrous live spectacles for fashion week.

‘As a designer, Anna’s thinking blurs the boundaries between the corporeal and incorporeal. Often using herself as the template, she shapes the female form in constant flux and evolution. With this painting, I wanted to celebrate that intelligence by depicting her in one of their garments, chosen for its metamorphic potential, with an almost animate presence that blurs the boundaries of her physical self.’
