📐🧵 CLASS SPOTLIGHT: COMMERCIAL PATTERNS 🧵📐

Imagine being able to walk into a fabric store, choose a commercial sewing pattern you love and actually understand how to turn it into a finished garment.

That's exactly the confidence we want to help you build in our Commercial Patterns Term!

This term, we'll be working with Simplicity S9920, using one garment project as the foundation for learning skills that can be transferred to countless future sewing patterns.

You'll learn how to understand pattern instructions and symbols, prepare and cut your pattern and fabric correctly, transfer important markings, follow the construction process and work through different garment-making techniques step by step.

Commercial patterns can look a little overwhelming when you first unfold that giant sheet of tissue paper 😅 but once you understand the language of patterns, a whole new world of sewing possibilities opens up.

The goal isn't simply to finish one garment. It's to help you understand why you're doing each step, build your garment construction skills and give you the confidence to tackle more patterns independently in the future.

If you're ready to move beyond the basics and start creating more of your own wardrobe, we'd love to have you join us!

👗✨ CLASS SPOTLIGHT: TRANSPARENT CORSETRY✨👗

Ready to explore a completely different side of garment construction?

Our Transparent Corsetry Term takes you into the fascinating world of structured and couture-inspired sewing as you learn how delicate-looking garments are engineered to provide shape, structure and support.

Throughout the term, we'll work through the construction of a beautiful cup corset while learning techniques including padded cups, underwire support, boning channels, sew-in and spiral steel boning, stabilising techniques and working with transparent fabrics.

Corsetry is such an interesting combination of creativity and precision. You're not simply sewing pieces of fabric together, you're learning how different materials, construction techniques and internal structures work together to create the finished shape.

We'll also explore elements of couture design, including ideas around embellishment, beading, draping and decorative finishes to inspire your own creativity.

If you've been wanting to challenge your sewing skills, explore couture and bridal techniques, or simply make something completely different, this is going to be such an exciting term!

Come and discover the art behind corsetry.

🧵✨ SPOTLIGHT: PRIVATE SEWING LESSONS ✨🧵

Sometimes the best way to learn is to make the lesson completely about you.

Our private sewing lessons are individually tailored around your skills, your project and exactly what you want to achieve. Whether you've never used a sewing machine before, you're stuck halfway through a garment, want to master a particular technique, or have an ambitious project in mind, we can work through it together at your own pace.

Private lessons can cover almost anything, from sewing machine basics and commercial patterns through to garment construction, pattern making, corsetry and more.

We've even worked with students to create incredibly special projects from the very beginning, including learning to sew while making their own wedding dress! 👰✨

There's no set curriculum and no pressure to keep up with a group. Just personalised, hands-on guidance focused entirely on helping you reach your sewing goals.

So if there's something you've always wanted to make but thought, "I wouldn't even know where to start..." — this might be exactly where you start. 💛

Private lessons are available by appointment.

🌞🧵 CLASS SPOTLIGHT: BYO & SEW DAY CLASS 🧵🌞

Our Friday BYO & Sew Day Class starts THIS FRIDAY at 10AM, and if you've been looking for an excuse to finally make time for sewing, this might be it!

BYO & Sew is exactly what it sounds like, bring your own project and sew what YOU want to sew, with guidance and support available whenever you need it.

Working on a commercial pattern and stuck on the instructions? Have an unfinished project that's been sitting in the cupboard for months? Want to learn a particular technique or start something completely new? Bring it along!

One of the biggest benefits of BYO & Sew is that you learn through the projects that genuinely interest you. Every student is working on something different, which also means there's always something new happening around the studio.

Our Friday daytime class is a relaxed and creative way to finish the week, meet other sewists, build your skills and enjoy dedicated time for yourself and your projects.

New and returning students are welcome, and you don't need to be an advanced sewist to join us.

Prefer evenings? We also have our Monday night BYO & Sew class available.

🧵✨ Sewing Tip: Don't Skip Your Staystitching!✨🧵

Staystitching might seem like one of those little steps you can skip, but it can make a huge difference to the final shape and fit of your garment.

Curved and angled fabric edges, particularly necklines and other areas cut on or near the bias, can easily stretch and distort simply from handling them during construction. Once they've stretched out of shape, it can be difficult to get them sitting beautifully again.

Staystitching is a simple row of stitching sewn just inside your seam allowance shortly after cutting your pattern pieces. It helps stabilise these vulnerable edges and keeps everything in its intended shape while you continue constructing your garment.

It's only a few extra minutes of sewing, but it's one of those small techniques that can make your finished garment look much more polished and professional.

Sometimes the steps that seem the least exciting are doing some of the most important work behind the scenes!

🧹🧵✨ Term 3 loading… ✨🧵🧹

The big studio clean and reset is officially underway because Term 3 starts TOMORROW! 😍

Although my plans for a productive cleaning day have been interrupted a few times… first for three private lessons, then again for another one 😂 So it’s safe to say the studio has been a very busy place today!

Between lessons, I’ve been cleaning, organising, resetting workstations and giving everything a little spruce-up ready to welcome everyone back. There’s still a little more to do before I can officially call it finished, but we’re almost there!

I absolutely love this part of a new term — seeing the studio fresh and ready, knowing that very soon the tables will be covered in fabric, machines will be humming, and all sorts of new projects will start coming to life.

We still have some spaces available across our Term 3 classes, so whether you’re one of our returning students ready for your next project or you've been watching from the sidelines and thinking about finally giving sewing a go… we'd love to have you!

New students, familiar faces and everything in between are always welcome. 💛

Now… back to cleaning before everyone arrives! 😂🧹
