FLW Corsets

FLW Corsets Just getting into custom making corsets, skirts as well as dresses and maybe even gowns. Well made and Well fit .

Just starting to try to get a custom corset business going not looking at trying to hit it big or take over the world. I just think that if you are going to have a corset it should look good and fit properly and to find one that fits all body styles right off the rack well good luck so just want people to have properly fit and well constructed pieces.

From Sew Curvy

Lets talk about HIPS. In dressmaking the convention is to "measure at the widest part of your hip". However in corsetry that simply doesn't work for more reasons than I can list here but mainly for the plain and simple reason that a corset will rarely go down that far! Another reason is shape. If you are a regular 'hourglass' shape, your 'seat' will be higher than if you are a pear shape or an apple shape. It's just such a silly metric for any garment making project, it drives me insane. That's why I enclose this diagram in all of my patterns along with a detailed description of how to measure. Having said that - the size charts with my patterns are made up of 'standard sizes' - they are not 'your size' and they are not a 'bespoke size'. The chart is simply a guide to figure out how your pattern will best fit you. Standard measures are worked out more precisely than "widest part of your bottom". This is most important if you are making your own patterns.
