Book Week called for a little adventure! ⚔️✨

Our Rory was named after Rory Williams from Doctor Who — the brave and loyal character who became a Roman centurion and waited nearly 2,000 years guarding the Pandorica. So it felt rather fitting that this little adventurer chose to become a knight for Book Week! 🏰

I made his costume using the Traveller Cape, Breeze Shirt and Knight Tunic Patterns, all by Twig + Tale. 🧵💙

There is something so special about creating handmade costumes and watching your child step into their own adventure. ❤️

The Trailblazer Vest by Twig + Tale was not an easy or particularly quick project for me. It took considerably longer than I expected, and trying to work on it while we were living between two homes made the whole process even more frustrating.

There were boxes, moving, unpacking, sewing in temporary spaces and constantly wondering where the next piece of fabric or sewing tool had disappeared to. It wasn't exactly the calm, creative sewing experience I had imagined.
But perhaps that's what makes the finished vest even more special.

The Trailblazer Vest feels like a reflection of where my sewing is right now — a blend of my love for making clothing and my new love of foundation paper piecing. Bringing those two things together feels completely me. It is practical and wearable, but still playful and a little unexpected. It carries the frustration of the process, the excitement of our new beginning and the satisfaction of finally seeing all those individual pieces come together.

It isn't perfect.
It took longer than planned.
And it certainly wasn't made under perfect circumstances.

But when I look at it, I see my signature.
And perhaps that's exactly what I want my sewing to be: not perfect, but personal.

Paddling into Adventure 🛶✨

Another block completed for my First FPP Quilt by Rena’s Customs — *Paddling into Adventure*. And honestly, I don’t think I could have chosen a more fitting block for this season of life.

We’ve recently moved house, which has been such a huge and exciting new adventure for our family. Setting up my new sewing room has been a little more time-consuming than I anticipated, so quilting time has been scattered between unpacking boxes, organising fabric and trying to find homes for everything. 😂 But despite the chaos, I am just so incredibly happy to be in our home. 🏡❤️

The next few blocks may be a bit of a random mash-up of fabrics, colours and textures as I slowly unpack my stash — and I think I’m going to embrace that. There’s something really special about knowing that when I look back at this quilt years from now, I’ll remember exactly where we were in life when each block was made. This quilt is becoming a little time capsule of such a special chapter. ✨

This particular block has an extra special story. Rory chose the colour of the canoe to match his Obie’s (my dad’s) kayak. When I showed Dad the finished block, he pointed out that his dad had a Canadian canoe that looked incredibly similar.

What started as a simple colour choice by Rory has somehow become another little piece of family history stitched into this quilt. 🥹❤️

*Paddling into Adventure* feels even more sentimental now — a reminder of where we’ve come from, the adventures we’re stepping into, and the family stories that carry on through the generations.

There's something so satisfying about turning forgotten fabrics into something beautiful. 💚

As part of my scrap-busting journey, I sewed the Wildvine Corset Top by Twig + Tale using a beautifully embroidered tablecloth from my stash. Instead of buying new fabric, I gave a once-loved textile a second life as a wearable garment.

I'll admit, this style is well outside my comfort zone, but that's one of the things I love most about sewing—it encourages me to try something new. The peplum shape was surprisingly flattering, and I love how this top can be worn on its own in warmer weather or layered through the cooler months.

This was definitely a challenging sew, but every stitch was worth it. To make the most of the remaining fabric, I also made a matching headband using the Twig + Tale Gifting eBook.

This project is a reminder that the best fabrics are often the ones already waiting in our stash. ✨ Upcycling and scrap busting really do go hand in hand.

I wasn't expecting my **Scrapbusting July** to spark a whole new passion... but here we are! 🧵✨

I've now finished **Block 3** of the Rena's Custom Creations quilt along, "Warm Glow, Warm Hearts", and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

This block was all about diving into the scrap basket and using as many different fabrics as possible. The result is bold, vibrant, and full of energy—just like a crackling bonfire. 🔥

Foundation Paper Piecing has completely surprised me. What started as a way to use up fabric scraps has quickly become a hobby I'm absolutely loving, and I can't wait to see the quilt continue to come together.

There is something so satisfying about watching this quilt come together, one block at a time! ☕🏕️

I've just finished **Block Two – "Glamping in Style"** from the Quilt Along by Rena's Custom Creations, and I couldn't resist adding a few personal touches.

The adorable little coffee caravan was inspired by the coffee van at the kids' swimming lessons... because let's be honest, swimming mornings definitely require a caffeine fix! ☕😂 Even more special, Frankie had been holding onto the tiniest piece of cappuccino fabric for ages, and it has finally found the perfect home as the caravan window.

I also added a little bit of embroidery inspired fabric with a cozy **"Hello"** sign on the door. It's those little details that make a project feel uniquely yours.

I'm absolutely loving seeing this quilt tell a story through fabric and memories. I can't wait to see what Block Three brings! 💛🧵

I'm stepping outside my comfort zone and diving into the world of Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) with the Quilt Along from Rena's Custom Creations! 🧵✨

I've just finished Block One, *A Peaceful Night*, and I'm so pleased with how it has turned out. It's been a fun challenge, and there's something so satisfying about watching all those tiny fabric pieces come together into a beautiful design.

I'm looking forward to seeing this quilt grow, one block at a time! 💙

There is something so satisfying about turning fabric scraps into something beautiful, useful, and full of character. 💛 This month's scrap busting challenge has completely changed the way I look at my overflowing scrap basket—not as leftovers, but as endless possibilities.

So far I've created:

🍄 A Tote Bag from the Gifting eBook featuring my very first Foundation Paper Pieced toadstool (and I've officially caught the FPP bug!).

🌿 A Headband from the Gifting eBook using a vintage embroidered napkin from my stash, giving a forgotten treasure a beautiful new purpose.

💜 A whimsical Zipper Pouch from the Gifting eBook, embellished with Woodland Embroidery and rose and vine motifs from the Secret Garden Embroidery Handbook. It's a special birthday gift for a dear friend who loves purple and all things whimsical—so a gnome lining was simply a must!

This challenge has reminded me that scrap busting is about so much more than reducing waste. It's about slowing down, embracing creativity, and giving every little piece of fabric the chance to become part of a new story.

I'm only just getting started and can't wait to see what other treasures emerge from my scrap basket this month!

🌿 A Dress Worth Every Stitch 🌿

Some sewing patterns challenge you in all the right ways—and the Windward Dress by Twig + Tale is definitely one of them.

From the moment I started sewing, I was captivated by the thoughtful construction. There are plenty of technical details that make this pattern feel like a rewarding sew, but Twig + Tale | Sewing Patterns's beautifully written instructions break everything down so clearly that each step builds your confidence. Instead of feeling intimidated, I found myself genuinely enjoying the process and appreciating the clever design.

One of my favourite features is the adjustable fit. The dress is designed to move with you, making it incredibly comfortable while still creating a beautifully flattering silhouette. It's a pattern that embraces the reality that our bodies naturally change throughout the day, and I love that the design celebrates comfort without sacrificing style.

I chose to fully line my dress for a polished finish, and paired it with a light brown Breeze Shirt to make it perfect for the cooler months. The result is a garment that feels just as beautiful to wear as it was to create.
The sunflower print symbolises hope, joy and new beginnings, making it the perfect fabric for such a special milestone we have going on in our lives.

I'm feeling pretty lime-light about this make! 🍋‍🟩

This is the Fruit Slice Messenger Bag by Heidi & Finn, and I couldn't resist sewing it up as a fresh, zesty lime. It's the lime-it when it comes to fun, quirky sewing projects!
