I'm honored and thankful to have received the NTI Workplace Transformation STARR Award 2025 at the 5 Year Celebration of the National Transformation Initiative held last week at Ilaro Court. A Night With The STARRS host, Raphael Saul said, this category of award "recognizes the connection between personal and professional growth and organizational development." This award reminds me that dedication, excellence and passion for what we do matters. It is a testament to my passion for personal and professional growth and development.

To be recognized for my contribution to the Grantley Adams International Airport Inc. is meaningful and rewarding. It is a privilege to be a part of a company committed to transformation by enhancing customer experience, embracing innovation and technology and encouraging employee growth and development. The NTI's delivery of the "Art and Heart of Service Training Programme" at the airport is indeed impactful.

I am grateful for the support of my mentors, teams, management and colleagues. Here's to continuing the journey and "Rising Higher".

EMBRACING & MASTERING DRESS CODE

While photos & videos are increasingly critical to compelling content creation, without either, I choose to post about my recent experience at the Combermere School incase it can help others preparing for an interview or the work environment. I presented on the topic Embracing and Mastering Dress Code, a segment of their "Ready for the World Symposium".

The goal was to deliver key concepts & practical solutions to help the students transition from the classroom to various colleges, universities & workplaces.

Key Takeways to Prepare for Job Interviews & Work Environments:

Avoid 3 Common Mistakes pertaining to:

1. Business Culture - Not knowing, learning and aligning with the expectations and culture of the entity.

2. Styles - Dressing in a manner inappropriate or incongruent with the business or industry e.g a DRAMATIC style with accessories too long or too bold in a traditionally conservative work environment

3. Fit and Fabric - wearing
clothing that is too tight or too short in fabrics that cling e.g spandex

*Practical Tips - Apply the 3Cs of Dress Code*

1. CREDIBILITY - align your attire for interviews & business with your qualifications, skills & talents to elevate your personal brand.

2. CONSISTENCY - Your clothing & accessories should enhance your appearance and not distract your peers & customers.

3. COORDINATION -  Invest in core foundation pieces in neutral colours like a black (navy alternative), beige which can be mixed & matched with coloured plain or printed blouses/tops which will save time & money

Deuteronomy 31:8 says, "The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged".

Recently, I had the distinct priviledge to be the featured speaker at the Prefects and Student Council Installation Ceremony of the Gordon Greenidge Primary School. Not only was the ambience warm and welcoming but hearing the students singing lustily further enhanced my experience. Thanks to Principal Ms. Mary Archer, the staff and students for the opportunity to participate in such a celebration. Special thanks to Ms. Suzanne Walker for the invitation.

The theme was Tomorrow's Leaders Start with Today's Youth. It was an opportunity to hear about their future goals and share some key concepts to navigate this new chapter of their lives. I shared with them the B.E.S.T acronym for their leadership journey: Bravery | Excellence | Service | Teamwork.

I reminded the Prefects and Student Council that a quote often attributed to Indian Lawyer Mahatma Gandhi says, "Be the change you want to see in the world, and remember that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference."

PERSONAL STYLE COLOUR HARMONY

Over the last two weeks, I noticed four persons (2 women and 2 men) on different occasions and environments wearing complementary colour combinations of red and green. Whether, a red blouse and green skirt or a green shirt and red shorts. I am not sure their rationale for combining these colours in their personal style. Perhaps, they are aware that red & green, purple & yellow or blue & orange are complementary colours which can add energy  depending on the context such as interior design and art. However, this recent sight prompted me to enlighten those who wish to enhance their personal style but are unsure how to improve.

While there isn't anything wrong with wearing these colour combinations, caution should be taken when combining outfits especially if your intention is to project a polished, refined and elevated style. These contrasting colours are more impactful when worn in a print or 70% of a dominant colour & 30% of the other compared to a plain top and plain bottom.

Hope this helps someone!

CAREER JOURNEY

Last week I had the privilege to deliver the feature address to a group of diligent and and aspiring young professionals who completed their 2024 Internship at Grantley Adams International Airport Inc. (GAIA Inc.). Special thanks to Mrs. Muriel Davis-Jordan and Mrs. Nicole Forde for this opportunity to plant seeds of career wisdom achieved from various experiences in the Tourism Industry.

I shared with them concepts that can help them to embrace their career journeys whether they remained in Aviation or transitioned to another industry. One such concept is GRIT which Author Angela Ducksworth defines well by stating that "Grit is about working on something you care about so much that you’re willing to stay loyal to it."

Personally, I use the acronym GRIT to represent:

• Growth mindset
• Resilience
• Improvement focused
• Tenacity

At the end, it was exciting to hear that they were listening. At least, this beautiful young lady in the photo with me 😊. She won🎉 a signed copy of my book "Returning To My First Love: a Journey of Faith" for responding correctly to a question based on the presentation. It is always a pleasure to share my knowledge and experiences to encourage and inspire others.

This photo backdrop encouraging people to start their journey to excellence, reminded me of my professional journey from secondary school to the University of the West Indies (UWI) and my transitions to the aviation, hospitality and image consulting industries. At each stage, the way I presented myself was key to my upward mobility.

For some people, a transition is often a time of uncertainty and anxiety. Whether you are transitioning from school to work; transitioning from line staff to a supervisory role / management or transitioning from management to executive leadership, your image and personal brand is integral to your success.

Recently, a client transitioning to work in a different industry sought my advise about what to wear. Here are a few tips I shared to help them on the transition journey:

☆ Don't rush out and purchase a new set of clothes you may later regret you bought. It may be a waste of time and money.

☆ Consider doing a wardrobe audit to identify any core pieces you possess e.g. a dark coloured pants or skirt that can be easily paired with various tops or jackets.

☆ With an organised wardrobe, and equipped with the clothes you have to work with, you can incorporate new pieces or accessories to achieve the appropriate look for your new work environment.

Wishing you much success in your career transition!
