I greatly appreciate the initial feedback from the first testers of my new Ol’ Factory Hill designer scented candles — especially from those who didn’t just open the lid and smell, but who gave themselves real time to fully experience how they burned, and how they smelled over time with repeated burns.

This newest testimonials affirm that I am succeeding on intended direction with these candles, which is to provide a variety of uniquely constructed scents that present pleasantly short- and long-term without being overpowering — at least for the right amount of people.

I am now encourage to proceed with the sales production of The Lighthouse and The Reading Room, and with sample productions of Wood Cabin Mornings and Bourbon, Fig & Pear Galette.

(And I may also have a client interested in a signature “white label” candle for their hospitality business, fingers crossed I can work out the international shipping.)

My Barbados Kente Cloth Pattern design continues to have appeal as a customer recently order the printed fabric locally in Barbados by premium artist and premium fabric printer The Fabric Hut for local fashion designer Alyssa to construct into stylishly appealing apparel for their child.

The Barbados Kente Cloth design is still available on my Spoonflower shop, but when in Barbados you can task local talent to help create many sartorial items and accessories through a great, professional network here to great satisfaction.

So far the feedback for the first two Ol’ Factory Hill custom-scented candles has been about 75%-25% positive-negative. I appreciate the honest feedback I asked forms I always value thorough input and as well want to have full transparency when marketing promoting.

As such the difference in opinion is to be expected, and is appreciated for being as informative to me as I need going forward. And as people are of different preferences (some people taste cilantro, some people taste soap), I can understand how, as you can read in the second, “Feedback” promo image. one tester thought the scents were very nice and as such not strong enough and the other find the same two scents overpowering and less appealing.

The most telling (and appreciated) feedback I got is from someone who said they don’t usually like candles but they like these, as I am of the same opinion of candles — most of them I don’t like (too sweet/floral/chemically, etc.) which is why I deigned to make candles for someone like me who doesn’t usually like candles.

And for full disclosure, I have still yet to hear feedback from some others who have the sample samples, which could be very telling right there (as in, afraid to hurt my feelings, thoughtful but unnecessary).

Overall, I love the scents — like, *love* them — and will look forward to the other scents I already have in the works.

I’ve finally received my “designer” custom-scented candles, and I am quite happy with how they came out.

(I am truly grateful for the 12 sets of hands who went out of their way to make that happen.)

These scents are created more to evoke a lifestyle—real, remembered, or imagined—more than just a single item or place.

“The Lighthouse” and “The Reading Room,” two of the four I will first release, accomplish that feat, with me focusing less on representing an shared and common idea one can remember and much more so on compelling and creative a narrative one can comfortably imagine themselves in.

A full production of all four original Ol’ Factory Hill candles—the other two being “Bourbon, Fig & Pear Galette” and “Log Cabin Mornings”—will begin shortly.

(And I’m thrilled to have a person in NYC who can ship these as soon as they’re produced!)

I think I may finally have someone (possibly the perfect person) to package and ship my first run of two of my four designer custom-scented soy wax candles.

Which means I can start taking the first orders sometime this week!

The first two scents — 4oz. sizes in black glass jars with black caps — on offer are “The Lighthouse (“beach breeze,” cashmere, sea foam, rain)” and “The Reading Room (leather, mahogany, pipe to***co, “old books”).

And a reminder: these soy wax candles are domestically produced, 100% sustainable from renewable resources, clean-burning, low soot (compared to paraffin products), and do not contain carcinogens such as benzene & toulene.

I will make them available to order by tomorrow, and this initial inventory is a very limited quantity run, but a larger production is already on order, so if you miss this debut production, fret not, more are already on the way.

My AfroSelí brand encompasses brands inspired by the Ghanaian and African roots of my father’s ancestry (The “Afro” part, natch) and the Arapaho tribe Indigenous People’s roots of my mother’s heritage (“Selí” meaning spirit/soul), and each brand has a number of *collections* under respective “banner.”

I quickly found the Arapaho people’s flag design and colors very striking, and I found a few cool ways to use the Arapaho flag and/or its components on some apparel, such as this stylish and snug embroidered beanie hat, made with a breathable cotton blend, that allows its wearers to look cool while keeping their heads warm.

I’ve decided to not let the women have all the fun!

“Kabila” is the Swahili word for “tribe,” and the and my custom graphic design is a visual cross-referencing of the more geometrical elements of Arapaho (Indigenous American) and Akan (Ghanaian) symbology.

The Alaric Designer “Kabila” design is a visual statement-maker, formally on women’s beachwear and beach items, but now on a very comfy men’s crew neck t-shirt.

This version of the Kabila print is the “bolder” of two iterations, and is rotated at 45º for its “diamond” vibe.

Winter is, of course, not the ideal time of year to be promoting a new Alaric Designer item like a t-shirt dresses, but I do want to plant the seed of awareness that I will be debuting brand new looks for spring, focus more on my AfroSelí line of apparel and products featuring designs inspired by African lineage of my father’s side of the family and the Indigenous Peoples lineage of my mother’s side of the family.

The t-shirt dress shown here sports a pattern of the Adinkra *Ani Bere* symbol which means patience, self-discipline, self-control, and perseverance. Like much the other AfroSelí collections (Adinkra, Arapaho Flag, Arapaho Symbols, Kabila, Kéya, Mtindo), these designs are meant to infuse the wisdom, strength, and perseverance of some of the longest-lasting cultures in the world into more modern day wear, still honoring the peoples who are historically responsible for who and what I am in this point of family history.
