শহরের একটি নামিদামী প্রতিষ্ঠানে চাকরি পেলো এক যুবক। বেতন খুব বেশি না হলেও ভবিষ্যতে বেতন বৃদ্ধি পাবার সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে।
প্রতিষ্ঠানের নিচে একই দিনে এক নতুন চায়ের দোকান খুললো এক যুবক। খুব বেশি ইনকাম নয় তবে শ্রম দিয়ে ধীরে ধীরে ইনকাম বাড়াতে শুরু করেছে।
১০ বছর পর চাকুরীরত যুবকের বেতন ২০,০০০ টাকা। এবং চায়ের দোকানদার যুবক এখন দোকান বড় করায় তার মাসিক আয় ২০,০০০ টাকা।
প্রতিদিন চা খেতে আসায় তাদের মধ্যে একটি বন্ধুত্ব তৈরি হয়। চাকুরিরত যুবক একদিন চা খেতে খেতে তার দোকানদার বন্ধুকে বলছে--"তোমার বেতন আমার বেতন সমান। অথচ দেখো আমার কত মান সম্মান, সবাই আমাকে স্যার স্যার বলে, কত সম্মান করে, কত রকম উপহার উপঢৌকন পাঠায়। অথচ দেখো তোমার এসব কিছুই নেই।"
দোকানদার বন্ধুটি জবাব দিল- আজকে আমি মারা গেলে আমার ছেলে দোকানে বসলে সেও ২০,০০০ টাকা আয় করবে।‌ কিন্তু আজকে তোমার কিছু হলে তোমার ছেলে কী করবে? কী রেখে‌ যাচ্ছো তার জন্য? দেখো আমরা একই পরিমাণ আয় করি কিন্তু দোকানটা আমার হলেও অফিসটা তোমার না। এমনকি কর্মক্ষমতা ফুরিয়ে গেলে এই অফিসটাই একদিন তোমাকে তাড়িয়ে দেবে। আমার দোকান কিন্তু কখনোই আমাকে তাড়াবে না। তোমার জায়গায় হয়তো ভালো আছো তবে আমি আমার জায়গায় সবচেয়ে বেশি ভালো আছি।
