Bangladesh regained second place in the global apparel export market in 2021 after being pushed back to third place by Vietnam in 2020. Turkey and India remained fifth and sixth, respectively, with Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and Pakistan following.
According to the World Trade Organization's (WTO) World Trade Statistical Review 2022, Vietnam's share of global ready-made garment (RMG) exports fell to 5.80% in 2021 from 6.40% in 2020.
Bangladesh's share of the global RMG market, on the other hand, increased to 6.40% in the last year from 6.30% in 2020. In 2019, the ratio was 6.80%, up from 6.40% in 2018.
According to a WTO statistical review, RMG exports from Bangladesh rebounded strongly in the previous year, increasing by 24% year on year. In 2020, exports suffered a significant setback, declining by 17% against a 7% increase in Vietnam's RMG exports.
