Pashmina Shawl 💋

Made in Kashmir around 1870, this extraordinary pashmina map shawl depicts the city of Srinagar in embroidered detail. The Jhelum River, Dal Lake, mosques, fort, gardens, streets, and clusters of buildings appear across the textile like a city seen from above.

Look closer, and it becomes even more remarkable: some place names were embroidered into the shawl in Persian script, turning a luxury textile into a miniature map of a living city.

Today felt like a quiet little victory wrapped in fabric.

Seeing my daughter’s friend walk in wearing something I designed… it didn’t feel like just an outfit. It felt like a piece of my imagination had stepped out into the world and decided to breathe on its own.

And then came the compliments. Not loud, not overwhelming—just enough to make my heart do that soft, glowing thing. The kind where you smile, but also go silent for a second because you’re trying to hold the moment still.

It’s funny how something as simple as thread and cloth can carry so much emotion. Today, it carried pride, gratitude, and a whisper saying, “keep going.” ✨
