Dear NMG family,
After tomorrow, we’ll fully sunset our online shop. It has been a true joy to have brought you vibrant pieces for the last ten years. I’ve received such kind messages over the past month highlighting memories from the first Kickstarter popovers to the hanten jackets that have become outfit staples for many. These reminded me that even though this is the end of one journey, we did something along the way.
To my co-founders and colleagues in Bangladesh: you taught me so much about your world and the beauty of your country’s traditional textiles. We built on heritage while trying to create something new. I will never forget the countless rickshaw rides with Muntasir & Chanchal through the din of Dhaka. Nor the peaceful countryside evenings with Kanak, Ishrat, & Sabuj after hot days working on new designs at Deshal.
NMG will live on not in brand but through the people who contributed to it. Chanchal is starting a new textile scrap reselling business. Obaidul has started his own garment sewing outfit. Deshal will carry our designs in their newest shops.
All of this still gives me hope that “Made in Bangladesh” can mean so much more.
