Bangladesh’s spinning industry is currently under severe stress: power shortages, weak cotton stocks, and rising costs have forced mills to sell yarn at very low margins just to maintain cash flow and keep factories running. Many mills are operating at only 50% capacity, and industry leaders warn of widespread closures if conditions don’t improve by late 2026.

⚡ Current Challenges in the Spinning Industry
Energy Crisis:
=Frequent gas and electricity shortages have left one-third of machinery idle in Dhaka’s industrial clusters.
=Factories are running at 50% capacity, raising per-unit costs and reducing competitiveness.

Cotton & Raw Material Shortage:
=Mills are importing fewer raw materials due to foreign exchange pressure and rising dollar rates.
=Cotton yarn imports are increasing, undermining local spinning capacity.

Financial Strain:
=Mills are selling yarn at low margins to generate cash flow for daily operations.
=Working capital has dropped by nearly 35% due to currency depreciation.
