Christian Ammann

Christian Ammann Christian Ammann is a young online gallery specializing in 20th Century designer furniture and objects with a focus on modern design from 1945-1969.

I have a passion for authentic handmade furniture from the 1940s, 50s and 60s, designed by furniture designers, architects and cabinet makers and made by skilled craftsmen. I like furniture made from natural materials such as oak, teak, walnut or rattan. I also like Mies van der Rohe-style or Paul Kjærholm-style furniture with sleek metal bases and down-filled, duvet-like leather upholstery. I spe

nd a lot of time finding the right pieces for my gallery. I often offer early production editions and sometimes rare pieces, mostly by well-known designers and sometimes also by less well-known designers. My aim is also to offer vintage furniture in very good condition that is ready to use and to enjoy for the new owner. To achieve this, I often refinish the furniture and work closely with a professional upholsterer and seat weaver - https://www.atelierseptember.be. Refinishing, reupholstering or re-weaving is done with respect for the original design and the original materials.

Oak and rattan coffee table AT10 by Hans J. Wegner
Hans J. Wegner designed this coffee table (model no. 10) in 1955 for Andreas Tuck, Denmark.
Characteristic of this table are the raised edge of the table top and the beautifully designed magazine shelf made of woven rattan.
At the time, the coffee table could be ordered in three versions: table top and base in smoked oak, table top and base in teak or table top in teak and base in smoked oak. You could also choose between two lengths: 130 cm and 160 cm.
The version I offer is 160 cm long and has a table top and base made of solid oak. I offer the table in refinished condition. The magazine shelf has been re-woven with rattan.

I am pleased to present to you this original Danish lounge chair, designed by the influential architect Poul Kjærholm.
The chair on offer was made by the Danish furniture manufacturer E. Kold Christensen in the 1960s. At the time you could order the chair with a canvas seat, a leather seat or with a rattan seat. This version, introduced in 1957, is the less common version with a seat in woven rattan.
I am offering the chair in refinished vintage condition. The matte, chrome-plated steel frame has been cleaned and is in excellent condition. The seat has been partially re-woven with new rattan to replace the broken parts. The back of the chair still retains his original patinated rattan.

Available is this gorgeous set of Danish Midcentury Modern stools designed in the 1950s by Sigfred Omann. His own furniture factory Ølholm Møbelfabrik, founded by his father Niels in 1892, produced the stools. These stools have an elegant frame made of solid oak and a seemingly floating seat made of woven rattan.
They are often (wrongly) attributed to the revered Danish designer Finn Juhl because they look almost exactly as stools that Juhl designed for Niels Vodder.

Hans J. Wegner designed the Wishbone chair in 1949 for Carl Hansen & Son, Denmark. The chair is his re-interpretation of an 18th-century Chinese chair. Today, the CH24 or Wishbone chair is considered a timeless icon of organic modern Danish design.
Characteristic of this chair are the steam-bent top rail, the Y-shaped backrest (after which the chair is named) that supports the top rail and the seat made of woven paper cord in envelope pattern.
The chair I offer was made in 1965 at Carl Hansen & Son, Odense and has a frame in solid oak.
I am offering the chair in refinished condition. The oak has been cleaned and re-waxed and the seat has been re-woven with natural paper cord.

Top view of the dining room chair CH23, designed in 1950 by Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen & Son.
Characteristic of this chair are the joinery details in the top rail of the chair and also the weaving of the paper cord (or rattan) between the stretchers and the seat frame. The chair I am offering has an oak frame (with the top rail in teak) and a woven rattan seat. This was the most luxurious version available.

I am pleased to present to you this original Danish hoop chair, designed by the talented furniture architect Illum Wikkelsø in the 1950s for N. Eilersen. Characteristic of the ringstol model 23 is the large round top rail which gives the chair its distinctive sculptural appearance. The floating seat and back in woven rattan further contribute to its Mid-century Modern style. In my humble opinion, this chair certainly qualifies for the most beautiful ring chair or hoop chair ever designed.
I am offering the chair in restored vintage condition, the wooden frame has been repainted and the seat + backrest have been re-woven with new rattan. Over time, the color of the rattan will darken.

The Scimitar chair or model '63 is designed by Preben Fabricius & Jørgen Kastholm in 1963 and is now considered an icon of Danish Mid-century Modern furniture design.
The chair on offer is an early production chair from the 1960s made by the master upholsterer Ivan Schlechter. At the time, he was considered the most skilled leather upholsterer. He did, among others, the upholstery of Poul Kjærholm's furniture.

The CH25 easy chair designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1949 for Carl Hansen & Son looks beautiful from every angle. You see the armchair, as shown here, mostly in oak, but did you know that the manufacturer also offered the chair in oiled beech or teak stained beech in the 1950s and 1960s?
