Whether it is knitwear, accessories, bags or home accessories, every product has its roots in a culture - the Faroese, the Japanese, the Greenlandic or whatever culture and/or people have inspired me - but the aesthetic guide

line will always have the final say. Influenced by street fashion and fascinating types, especially the independent, confident woman and the stylish, urban man, the garments are distinctive and – as the characters that inspired them – remarkable. Shisa Brands Italian wool cable knit jacket is perfect in early summer. Elegant or trendy, it depends on how you mix it with your other items. On this lovely spring afternoon in the Tokyo sun, it suited Mari perfectly with this loose shirt. The jacket is hand knitted with Italian merino wool with attached zipper. The sign on the street in Shimbashi Tokyo says Tomare, which in Japanese means stop! Mari didn’t stop, she walked with confidence, a confidence that made the salarymen of Tokyo slow down, turn their heads and admire the beautiful young woman walking towards the camera. Shisa Brand adores this Japanese beauty and how well she presents our knitwear. The jacket Mari is wearing is hand knitted with Faroese un died Wool, it is zippered and has rib knit cuffs, collar and waistband. The clutch she is holding is waxed cotton linen with Shisa Brands iconic black sheep. The small Faroese fashion brand meets the big city of Tokyo, there was an instant connection, a friendship.

Did you know, that in Okinawa, Japan, these are named Shisa, and they are a cross between a dog and a lion. They are often found sat in pairs guarding an area’s entrance and are used to ward off evil spirits. The open-mouth shisa is the male, who scares evil spirits away, whilst the one with the closed mouth is the female who keeps the surrounding goodness in. Not the worst symbol and connotation to be associated with. A Shisa Brand garment could therefore protect the owner from evil and keep goodness in?
