SS27 is finished and I’m incredibly proud at what we have achieved at the atelier in where all prototypes of the collection were created, including the embroidery with
SS27 starts with a book I discovered about tiles in the Ottoman Empire and a roll of fabric we had left from 2024 which, by coincidence or not, depicted those same tiles I had drawn. Researching the Empire’s history further, it took me to a story about a young giraffe that had to walk from Africa to Paris. It became an analogy for my own very long journey as a fashion and textile designer. The beauty of Zarafa slowly wore off during the long journey to Paris; for me the beauty of the craftsmanship that is designing wore off at the beginning of this year when we had to realize that everything has become so incredibly content driven it is taking away from the time I need to create actual good collections instead of pushing out products, video’s and triggering images.
So I took the time to do thorough research for my drawings for the prints, and to actually go back to draping on a mannequin to add more interesting shapes to a collection instead of thinking about commerciality and content making.
I’m excited to show you the result. My favorite is already the trench coat, which has a story on its own, but that’s for later.
