Flat seams always make me happy 😍

I never make a knot at the end of my thread to start quilting. Instead, I place about 2" (5 cm) of thread in between the layers of my quilt sandwich, right underneath my quilting line, and I make my quilting stitches through this thread to secure it. Although I know that a quilt knot usually stays in place perfectly, I can't help thinking that if it can go through the fabric one way, it can also go the other way (and end up loose...). How do you secure your threads?

Good morning!
I know, it has been a bit quiet here. Lots of work going on "behind the scenes" and although I wish I could, I can't show you all right now as some things - like a new Mystery quilt coming up at the start of 2027 🥳 - have to remain secret for now 😉
Anyway, the Say It With Flowers runner is quilted - I'll share pics when the blue marker is washed out, because although very useful, those blue lines on a quilt look horrible😅 and the Switch! is growing and growing.
I doubt if many quilting stitches will be made today though, as Mini is home from the nursery and I think we'll be making a little trip to the social farm today, where he can watch and pet the animals. The runner ducks are currently his favorites 😁

I had an early start this morning, as I'm off to to teach hand piecing 🩷While I'm having breakfast, the birds in my garden are chirping happily. All kinds of birds make an appearance, from sparrows and blue t**s to collared doves and woodpeckers.
Inside, these little Songbirds are keeping me company. I need to find some time to make a couple new ones, as I think they would also look lovely in the new Back in the Day fabrics!

When I was little, my mother often played Rod Stewart's "I am sailing". Although it's not necessarily my favorite song, it does bring back fond memories. It's always nice to remember the little things, while doing some needle turn appliqué!
