Some brands start with a logo. Serengeti started with a lens.
Back in the early 1960s, Corning Glass Works was one of the most technologically advanced companies on earth. The company’s vast R&D division was filled with modern alchemists, scientists eager to explore the “real unknown.”
The new glass they developed did seem like magic. Embedded with submicroscopic crystals of silver halide—128 million billion of them per cubic inch it could respond to changing light on its own. The glass turned darker in bright sun and lighter when clouds rolled in, not just once but thousands of times.
In a 1964 article, Time magazine noted: “Corning says that its dark-light glass is still in the laboratory stage, but it is no mere scientific stunt, and Corning men are working hard on practical applications … sunglasses able automatically to adjust their density to light conditions.”
Twenty years later, Corning founded Serengeti with a simple mission: create the best driving lens in the world. Built on decades of optical research and photochromic technology, Serengeti brought adaptive mineral glass to the road and created a new way of seeing the world.
Today, Serengeti remains the only eyewear brand to combine three industry-leading technologies into a single lens: photochromic adaptation, polarization, and Spectral Control™.
The world changes by the mile. Make sure your lenses keep up.
