No messages from the 'kids'?

Stop taking it personally. I check WhatsApp. No messages. No reply to my very simple question: “What time are you home tonight?”

And I’m thinking… how hard is it, really? Especially when their phones are basically glued to their hands 24/7.

I used to take that personally. Like… hello?? I raised you??
Now I try not to. Well. I try not to.

Because maybe… they’re just busy living a life that doesn’t include updating me. Rude. But also… growth? 😅

But maybe… it’s time I start living my own life again! Where do I start?

Help ... the 'kids' are independent!

Sure 😂 They don’t need me anymore. That’s what they say.
They’ve got their own lives, their own plans, their own mysterious schedules.

Meanwhile… The fridge keeps restocking itself. Clean clothes magically appear. And every “small crisis” still ends with: “MOM??”

So yes, totally independent.

I’m just the invisible life-support system in the background.
So… if they’re independent, what would I even do with all that free time?

Let me see ...

Birthday Mom: Sushi, chocolate & secret chaos plans

Today is Lily’s birthday. Sushi, chocolate cake, perfect plans… pure happiness.

Until she realizes: will the kids actually be home? Or lost again in their secret agenda universe—no schedule, no timing, no explanation?

Because nothing says “happy birthday, Mom” like a casual 16:58: “Oh yeah, we’re going out.”

Lily plays it safe: “Everyone home tonight for a surprise?”

They’ll be there. Not excited, just… present. She rolls her eyes. Of course. Attendance, not applause.

What Lily doesn’t know? Ben and the kids are deep in undercover birthday mission mode. Secrets, whispers, suspicious confidence.

A surprise party is coming. And Lily’s perfectly planned day? Completely hijacked.

Her world is about to turn upside down. 💛 Happy Birthday, Lil!

Hotel Mom - A mystery schedule.

They leave the house with zero details: no plan, no timing, just vibes.
I used to take it personally.

Now I realize… this isn’t bad communication. It’s just grown kids life.

So why am I still standing here like a confused receptionist, waiting for an itinerary that was never coming?

Empty nest life tip: stop managing the schedule… and start enjoying your own. Get inspired at https://what-a-story.com/collections/playbooks

Let's have fun! Lily xoxo

Hotel Mom Life - When grown kids turn your home into a chaotic hotel life

They wake up at noon like it’s a luxury resort. They drift into the kitchen, open the fridge like it’s an all-inclusive buffet, and casually ask “what’s for dinner?” while already snacking on something else.

And I just observe the pattern like a curious researcher in the field of grown kids at home behavior.

Because honestly… this isn’t parenting anymore. It’s more like running a chaotic hotel for adult children who forgot to check out.

Welcome to empty nest, where the guests never leave, the schedule doesn’t exist, and the kitchen is always “open.”

We are a hotel now!

The kids are still home… technically.
But honestly? They come and go like guests who forgot how communication works.

And I’ve stopped pretending this is confusing.

So… are we still a family or just a very underpaid hotel with emotional baggage?

Struggeling with the empty nest feeling too? https://what-a-story.com/

Empty Nest Life… is confusing.

Your grown-up kids now seem to run on a secret calendar. Plans. Mysterious plans. You’re definitely not on the guest list.

They wake up at noon, wander into the kitchen, open the fridge…
“Where’s the grill sausage?! Who ate it?!” Good morning to you too.

Then suddenly: they have to leave urgently. No timing, no details. Just vibes.

So… do you count them in for dinner?

If you do, they “never said they’d be home.”
If you don’t, they somehow “never said they wouldn’t be home.”

La-la. Freedom, they said. Fun, they said.

Empty Nest Life: Feeling lost after kids grow up?

You didn’t lose yourself. You just stopped being needed the same way.

That creates space.
Let's fill it—gently (and without a full identity crisis).
