SQUIRREL PLUSHIE
A soft, adorable handmade toy that also makes a perfect Christmas gift! 🎄🧸✨
🧶 Materials Needed
Soft plush fabric (minky, fleece, or velour) — light brown + cream
Cotton fabric for inner ears
Small felt pieces (nose, optional cheeks)
Stuffing fiber (polyfill)
Matching polyester thread
Sewing machine + hand needle
Pins or clips
Fabric scissors
Optional: bell, ribbon, mini hat, or felt ice cream accessory
✂️ Pattern Pieces
Use the template shown in the image. Cut:
Front of Head — 1x
Back of Head — 1x
Back of Body — 1x
Arms — 2x
Squirrel Tail — 1x
Inner Ear — 2x (from contrasting fabric)
Hat — 1x (optional)
Ice Cream pieces — 1x each (optional accessory)
📏 Measurements
(If you need conversions to inches, I can add them — just ask.)
All pieces include standard 1 cm seam allowance unless otherwise stated.
🪡 Instructions
1️⃣ Prep the Pieces
Cut all fabric pieces according to the pattern.
Apply light interfacing to ears, hat, or ice cream if you want more structure.
2️⃣ Sew the Head
Place Front of Head and Back of Head right sides together.
Sew around, leaving a small opening at the neck.
Turn right side out.
Stuff firmly with polyfill.
Hand-sew the opening closed later when attaching to the body.
3️⃣ Make the Ears
Sew each outer ear piece with an inner ear piece, right sides together.
Turn right side out and press gently.
Fold the base slightly to shape and sew the fold closed.
Set aside to attach after assembling the head.
4️⃣ Sew the Arms
Sew the arm pieces right sides together.
Turn and stuff lightly.
Close the opening with hand stitching.
5️⃣ Assemble the Body
Sew the Back of Body piece following the curved shape.
Add the belly patch (cream fabric) to the front using topstitching.
Attach the arms between the side seams if you want them sewn-in,
or hand-sew them on later for a posable look.
6️⃣ Make the Tail
Sew the Squirrel Tail piece right sides together.
Turn and stuff moderately (not too firm — you want it soft and curved).
Close the opening.
Hand-stitch the tail to the back of the body, curving it upwards.
7️⃣ Attach the Head
Position the head onto the upper body opening.
Sew securely using a ladder stitch (invisible stitch).
Hand-sew the ears onto the top of the head.
8️⃣ Face Details
Embroider the eyes with black thread (simple dots or sleepy eyes).
Add a tiny felt nose and optional blush on the cheeks.
9️⃣ Optional Accessories
🧁 Ice Cream Cone
Sew the two pieces, turn, stuff lightly, and hand-stitch to the paw.
🎉 Party Hat
Sew the hat piece into a cone, add a pom-pom, and hand-stitch onto the head.
🎀 Bow
Create a small ribbon bow and attach it around the neck.
